Check out the Children's Corner below to see some of the great new programs the Children's Staff has planned!

Evergreen Update

C/W MARS has made the decision to delay the upgrade to the new Evergreen system and catalog to ensure a smooth transition.

A new target date has not yet been set, but we will keep you updated with more news as we receive it!

Thank you for your continued patience.

Barcoding Project

In addition to the system update, our interlibrary delivery system is making a transition. To accommodate the new handheld system of scanning, all barcodes will have to be placed in the upper-left corner of the item. Staff and volunteers are working through the collection, and making great progress!

Volunteer Ted Bartlett adds a new barcode.

She moved to Boston to attend Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and graduated with a BA in Fashion Design. She has since moved back to Southbridge, where she has opened a small boutique called Kyoko's Closet, located at 23 Hamilton Street.

The designs on display this month are a glimpse of the styles that can be found on the racks of Kyoko's Closet.

Bare Bones

The Jacob Edwards Library is pleased to present a monthly book discussion! The group is informal and friendly and new participants are welcome.

Library staff will obtain copies of each title, one month before the discussion date. Please inquire at the Information Desk to reserve your copy of next month's title!

This month the group will discuss Bare Bones by Kathy Reichs:

"'Down time' is not a phrase in Tempe Brennan's vocabulary. A string of disturbing cases has put her vacation plans on hold; instead, she heads to the lab to analyze charred remains from a suspicious fire, and a mysterious black residue from a small plane crash. But most troubling of all are the bones. . . . Tempe's daughter's new boyfriend invites them to a picnic - a pig pickin' - in the North Carolina countryside, where a cache of bones turns up. But are they animal or human? X-rays and DNA may link the crimes, but they can't reveal who is closing in on Tempe and her daughter - and how far they will go to keep her from uncovering the truth."

Library Box Office: A Screaming Man
Thursday, February 9th at 6:00 p.m.

 Synopsis:
"Adam, a former swimming champion in his sixties, is a pool attendant at a hotel in Chad. When the hotel gets taken over by A Screaming Mannew Chinese owners, he is forced to give up his job to his son, Abdel, leaving Adam humiliated and resentful. Meanwhile the country is in the throes of a civil war. Rebel forces are attacking the government and the authorities demand the people contribute to the "war effort" with money or volunteers old enough to fight. Adam is constantly harassed for his contribution, but he is penniless. In a moment of weakness, Adam makes a decision that he will forever regret."

A Screaming Man was the winner of the Jury Prize at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, as well as several other international film festival prizes. Running time: 91 minutes.

About the Library Box Office: Most true independent and foreign films get squeezed out of commerical theaters by Hollywood blockbusters, and face skyrocketing costs that make it daunting - if not impossible - to reach appreciative audiences. JEL subscribes to the Film Movement series to bring "art house" independent and foreign films to you.
