Stop by during the month of November to view "Over Time Across the Sky," an exhibit featuring highlights of the history of hot air balloons and airships!

As a member of the Exhibits Committee at Gordon Library, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Jackie Mushinsky has designed and implemented many small to medium sized displays in the library and assisted in preparing materials for larger exhibits.

Hot Air BalloonShe recently created a display about the History of Hot Air Balloons and Airships, which was shown during the summer months at Gordon Library. The Hot Air Balloon display for the Jacob Edwards Library in Southbridge, MA, is a spin-off of the earlier display, with the addition of a number of items from Jackie's personal collection of hot air balloon and airship memorabilia.

From the whimsical to the more serious aspects, this exhibit focuses on many highlights in the history of lighter than air flight, from early hot air ballooning to current scientific and recreational balloon and airship activities.

Exhibit includes books and memorabilia related to hot air balloons and airships from the personal collection of Jackie Mushinsky, who designed and created the display.

A reception will be held on Thursday, November 3rd at 6:30 p.m., and the exhibit will be on display throughout the month of November.

A Really Cute Corpse

The Jacob Edwards Library is pleased to present a monthly book discussion! The group is informal and friendly and new participants are welcome.

Library staff will obtain copies of each title, one month before the discussion date. Please inquire at the Information Desk to reserve your copy of next month's title!

This month's title for discussion is A Really Cute Corpse by Joan Hess:

"When Claire Malloy's best friend Luanne Bradshaw goes down with a badly sprained ankle, someone must fill in her shoes as Thurberfest beauty Pageant coordinator and usher a bevy of aspiring beauty queen through the two-day event. Enter Claire Malloy to the rescue. But this is one job Claire would gladly be fired from. Now, already fending off a hostile theater owner, and overly-agressive personal trainer, an incontinent show-dog, a fifteen-year-old daughter with more growing pains than she can count, and a talent contest in need of some talent, Claire must face one more problem--someone is trying to kill the reigning Miss Thurberfest.

When a ghastly murder scene signals the culprit's success, Claire's investigative instincts take over, but when she digs too close to the truth, the race is on to discover the killer's identity before Claire herself is crowned the next victim..."

Library Box Office: Bomber
Thursday, November 10th at 6:00 p.m.

 Synopsis:
"Alistar and Valerie have been planning a special trip to Germany for a very long time. When their son Ross stops by the house to Bombersend them off, happenstance turns into an impromptu family road trip of the most tortuous kind. Alistar berates Ross for all that he is not in life, while Valerie tries to keep the peace. It is soon discovered that Alistar's reason for the often comic, sometimes painful trip is to shed a guilt he's been carrying for years. Ultimately, the family learns they need each other more then they imagined."

Bomber is a comedy/drama from the UK, and received high praise at the SXSW Film Festival. Running time: 85 minutes.

About the Library Box Office: Most true independent and foreign films get squeezed out of commerical theaters by Hollywood blockbusters, and face skyrocketing costs that make it daunting - if not impossible - to reach appreciative audiences. JEL subscribes to the Film Movement series to bring "art house" independent and foreign films to you.

Also, topics such as her landscapes, shells and more will be covered.Calla Lily From sheer beginners with no experience to advanced students, all will experiment with hundreds of my pastels learning pastel handling techniques O'Keeffe used in her pastel art. Scumbling, feathering, blending, slurring, edges, and layering will be mastered in this direct tactile medium of pure and nuanced color. How layering is accomplished without fixatives for achieving O'Keeffes "clean" look will be a focus as well as building an abstract foundation through Leonardo da Vinci's revolutionary drawing technique.
