Transition to a New Library System

C/W MARS - a name you are now familiar with - will continue to be our network. In the last year,
C/W MARS has been working with other networks to explore a new system that uses open source software, and has chosen Evergreen.

Merrimack Valley, another network, has already successfully made the switch. Starting July 1, the academic libraries in the area will migrate over, and public libraries will follow by mid-October. During this transition, patrons may see some changes in service at various times during these periods, but we will endeavor to keep any difficulties to a minimum.

JEL Staff will attend training sessions in August & September in preparation for the switch.

Being open source, Evergreen will allow C/W MARS to make changes to our own system and provide control over the development, maintenance, reliability and adaptability of our most essential services and their associated costs.

Library Box Office: Spare Parts
Thursday, July 14th at 6:00 p.m.

 Synopsis:
"Embittered widower, Ludvik, spends his nights transporting Spare Partsillegal refugees in his van from Croatia, across Slovenia, and into Italy. The young and inexperience Rudi acts as his helpmate. Together they become a well-trained duo who almost every night convey "spare parts" to Italy. The whole idea of this account is that everyone - including ourselves - is looking for happiness: the "spare parts" because of the misery they are plunged into without, and our characters because they can't find it inside."

Spare Parts was Slovenia's selection for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards, and an Official Selection of multiple international film festivals.

About the Library Box Office: Most true independent and foreign films get squeezed out of commerical theaters by Hollywood blockbusters, and face skyrocketing costs that make it daunting - if not impossible - to reach appreciative audiences. JEL subscribes to the Film Movement series to bring "art house" independent and foreign films to you.
