Jesse Cloutier & Amy Young
August 2010, Reception August 5th at 6:30 p.m. |
Stop by the library during August to view artwork by hometown artist Jesse Cloutier (below), featuring paintings by Amy Young (at right)!
A little about the artists and their pieces:
Jesse Cloutier:
"Jesse Cloutier is a curious person. This show contains some of Jesse's more recent explorations. Each piece is constructed from an individual wasp nest, which has been pulled apart, pressed flat and reconstructed into a single sheet of paper using plant fiber glues. The images were created by burning photographs into photopolymer print plates and transferring them to the wasp nest sheets through an etching press.
Jesse was born and raised in Southbridge, MA and has since moved to Manchester, NH while pursuing volunteer work through the AmeriCorps VISTA national service program. He attended Chester College of New England and graduated with a BA in Interdisciplinary Arts."
Amy Young:
"I am interested in the idea/concept of memory. My work investigates how we remember both the important and mundane moments in our lives. It explores the way our minds both hold on to memories and destroy them at the same time. I enjoy creating work that brings the viewer to that place of limbo in the memory. I want to explore both the nostalgia and the forgotten; the daily objects of life that are often neglected.
My work comes from a personal desire to memorialize my family's past and my childhood. I am attempting to cement myself in a family history. I find inspiration in family photos and the feelings of loss and desire that they evoke. I collect and catalog these items in an attempt to create memorials for lost times and moments. During this body of work I chose to focus on objects, toys specifically, and how they become vessels of memory."
Please join us for the opening reception on Thursday, August 5th at 6:30 p.m. Live music will be performed by Donald Croke (guitar and vocals). All are welcome, and refreshments will be served.

Library Box Office: Lake Tahoe Thursday, August 12th at 6:00 p.m. | The Library Box Office Presents: Lake Tahoe
The Friends of the Jacob Edwards Library present Lake Tahoe, which will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Pioppi Room, lower level. Candy will be available for purchase.
Lake Tahoe won Best Film, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor at the Ariel Awards, and was an official selection at several film festivals.
In Spanish with English subtitles.
Synopsis:"Teenage Juan crashes his family's car into a telegraph pole on the outskirts of town, and then scours the streets searching for someone to help him fix it. His quest will bring him to Don Heber, an old paranoid mechanic whose only companion is Sica, his almost human boxer dog; to Lucía, a young mother who is convinced that her real place in life is as a lead singer in a punk band, and to "The One who Knows", a teenage mechanic obsessed with martial arts and Kung Fu philosophy. The absurd and bewildering worlds of these characters drag Juan into a one day journey in which he will come to accept what he was escaping from in the first place--an event both as natural and inexplicable as a loved one's death."
About the Library Box Office:
Most true independent and foreign films get squeezed out of commercial theaters by Hollywood blockbusters and face skyrocketing marketing costs that make it daunting - if not impossible - to reach appreciative audiences. The Jacob Edwards Library subscribes to the Film Movement series to bring "art house" independent and foreign films to you. |

The Jacob Edwards Library is delighted to host a group for aspiring writers of both fiction and nonfiction! Inkwell Imaginings will meet on the second and fourth Mondays of every month. Read on for more information:
"Remember the first sentence you ever read? Okay, so probably not. Do you remember, though, that wonderful feeling the vivid scenes and imagery gave you? Sweeping you up in a maelstrom of emotion, chaos, and tragic beauty that so seems to elude you no matter how many times you re-write it or bang your head on the table? Well, welcome to the club. In the immortal words of Douglas Adams: "DON'T PANIC!" There is hope and there is help. While this group won't be the answer to all of your descriptive dilemmas we may be able to help you through at least a few scenes on your way to your ultimate masterpiece.
We welcome you with open arms and bleeding pens to Inkwell Imaginings, a bi-weekly writing group started by two struggling authors (much like yourself), looking to provide an outlet and support through the trials and tribulations of the writing world. While not experts we can lend a helping hand and sympathetic ear, allowing each of us to grow and empower you and your quest to become published... or just to write a story that you can be proud of." |
