It's Your Library - Tell Us What You Think!

The Long Range Plan Team hopes to start compiling the information into a report format this month.  If you still have not shared your thoughts with us, you still have a few more days to do so!

Another five years have passed - it's that time again when the library sets aside time to review services and operations.

This important process helps all of the stakeholders to know what is wanted and needed by the community in the visioning focus groups.

The more people that can participate the more detailed our picture is.

Comment is welcome from everybody.

Art by Julie Caprera
Stop by the library during July, and view an art exhibit by Julie Caprera!

A little about Julie:
"Although an interest in art has always existed, a lack of information led to career choices in nursing and teaching.  Truly by accident opportunities developed in the last few years to explore the latent desire.  Work is in oils and acrylics with strong use of color.  A friend describes my style as, "Paintings that fit in real people's homes."  I hope you enjoy the exhibit.  I enjoyed preparing it.".
Teen Green Crafts
Fridays, July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23nd, and 30th, 2:00 p.m.
Floppy Disk NotebooksAll teens are welcome to join us every Friday in July at 2 p.m. to try a new, ecofriendly craft!

On July 2, we'll make earbud holders (no more tangled wires!) followed by recycled gift bows on the 9th, floppy disk notebooks on the 16th, soda tab bracelets on the 23rd, and "free craft" on the 30th.

Library Box Office: A Call Girl
Thursday, July 8th at 6:00 p.m.
The Library Box Office Presents:         A Call Girl A Call Girl

The Friends of the Jacob Edwards Library present A Call Girl, which will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Pioppi Room, lower level.  Candy will be available for purchase.

A Call Girl was an official selection of both the Toronto International Film Festival and the Rotterdam International Film Festival, among others.
In Slovenian with English subtitles.

Synopsis:
"Having grown up in small-town Slovenia, 23-year-old Alexandra embraces the excitement and anonymity of big city life when she moves to the capital. She styles herself as a call girl, planning to take advantage of everything the city has to offer. But her isolated existence-English studies and mortgage payments by day, call girl lifestyle by night-is shattered when one of her clients, a visiting politician, dies of a heart attack on her watch. Alexandra must suddenly confront fear, guilt, and desperation as she finds herself pursued by a band of local pimps, as well as the cops, hot on her trail. The old village life she had escaped from might now become her only refuge."

About the Library Box Office:
Most true independent and foreign films get squeezed out of commercial theaters by Hollywood blockbusters and face skyrocketing marketing costs that make it daunting - if not impossible - to reach appreciative audiences.  The Jacob Edwards Library subscribes to the Film Movement series to bring "art house" independent and foreign films to you.
Greg Maichack Pastel Workshop
Wednesday, July 14th at 2:00 p.m.
Greg Maichack will host a pastel workshop, "Van Gogh's Starry Night: Expressive Pastel Painting."  Held in the Pioppi Room, this pastel painting workshop is designed for adults and teens, both sheer beginners to advanced participants who want to paint expressively.

Starry NightA demo of pastel handling techniques that allow a command of edges, scumbling, blending, slurring, and layering, and a demonstration of various strokes will fully illustrate van Gogh's successful expressive methods. You will develop your own pastel paintings while understanding decorative qualities such as energetic line and bold color.

Inkwell Imaginings
Mondays, July 12th and 26th, 6:00 p.m.
The Jacob Edwards Library is delighted to host a group for aspiring writers of both fiction and nonfiction!  Inkwell Imaginings will meet on the second and fourth Mondays of every month.  Read on for more information:

"Remember the first sentence you ever read? Okay, so probably not. DoWriting you remember, though, that wonderful feeling the vivid scenes and imagery gave you? Sweeping you up in a maelstrom of emotion, chaos, and tragic beauty that so seems to elude you no matter how many times you re-write it or bang your head on the table? Well, welcome to the club. In the immortal words of Douglas Adams: "DON'T PANIC!" There is hope and there is help. While this group won't be the answer to all of your descriptive dilemmas we may be able to help you through at least a few scenes on your way to your ultimate masterpiece.

We welcome you with open arms and bleeding pens to Inkwell Imaginings, a bi-weekly writing group started by two struggling authors (much like yourself), looking to provide an outlet and support through the trials and tribulations of the writing world. While not experts we can lend a helping hand and sympathetic ear, allowing each of us to grow and empower you and your quest to become published... or just to write a story that you can be proud of."
