Please join the Jacob Edwards Library in welcoming Alberto Mercado when he stops by to sign his newly released novel, From Ashes to Dreams: My life, my story on Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Reading Room.

An intense and emotional novel, From Ashes to Dreams follows a family tragedy that left a mother and six small children struggling to get by. With no outside help forthcoming, the family pulled together, with each member playing his or her own role in daily life in an effort to survive. But their hardships in contrast to many of the families around them instilled a desire to succeed. The story is told through a letter written by one of the children to his deceased father in an effort to stop the nightmares that continued to haunt him well into his adult life.
Thursday, September 10th - Library Box Office
Made in the USAThe Library Box Office Presents: Madeinusa

The Friends of the Jacob Edwards Library present Madeinusa which will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Pioppi Room, lower level.  Candy will be available for purchase.

Synopsis:
"Madeinusa is a girl aged 14 with a sweet Indian face who lives in an isolated village in the Cordillera Blanca Mountain range of Peru. This strange place is characterized by its religious fervor. From Good Friday at three o'clock in the afternoon (the time of day when Christ died on the cross) to Easter Sunday, the whole village can do whatever it feels like. During the two holy days sin does not exist: God is dead and can't see what is happening. Everything is accepted and allowed, without remorse. Year after year, Madeinusa and her sister Chale, and her father Don Cayo, the Mayor and local big shot, maintain this tradition without questioning it. However, everything changes with the arrival in the village of Salvador, a young geologist from Lima, who will unknowingly change the destiny of the girl."

Each month the Friends of the Jacob Edwards Library present and independent or foreign movie as part of the Library Box Office Series.  All movies are available in DVD format for borrowing after the screening.  The Pioppi Room is equipped with surround-sound and a large screen projector to enhance your viewing experience.
