Jane Reid, owner of Banyandah naturally, is hosting Journey Horse for the third year:
"During the first JH with Trish Broersma in 2010 Trish explored with us the Hero's Journey as metaphor, a roadmap for seeing the much bigger picture. At the end of this workshop when we were discussing the possibility of Trish's return to facilitate a second JH experience, I remember innocently asking "but will you have enough material ..........?" Silly me!
JH 2011 confirmed I had no cause for doubt! We embraced deeply the subject of our connection to place thru Dreamtime mythology and stories. We explored the geographical landscape to further understand the landscape of our lives.
"Incorporated into this higher thinking Trish seamlessly introduced yet another dimension - the sentient wisdom of horse for balance and grounding. There could be no better companion to share this journey of transformation with than an equine partner!
"JH 2012 invites us to explore the mystery of time. I know once again we will be challenged to think outside the box, to take emotional risks, to laugh and to cry and be guided by Trish's loving hand on the journey of a life TIME." Cindy Jacobs is hosting Journey Horse 18-20 November at her Free Rein Australia outside Melbourne in Torquay, Victoria, out of her interest in innovative programs with horses for developing leadership skills: "I love Trish's book and am excited to experience her facilitation and wisdom." Mel Fleming is hosting Journey Horse 22-25 November. Here's why: "From my experience horses are teachers. Good horsemanship is a metaphor for life, and horses, like everything around us, are reflections of ourselves. I am interested in looking at Trish's work to see her perspectives around these concepts." |

Endurance of Another Kind
|
 | Aspen Lake Ride |
I have just yesterday returned from a fall endurance ride. Friday was filled with the usual symphony of bustling activity that goes with any ride - horses neighing to neighbors, rigs and trailers setting up camp haphazard across the five acre field, stories shared to catch up with old and new friends. As I rode out for an hour long exercise ride that day, I reflected on the delight of riding Mystic this past year, both of us calm and eager for our adventures together. There were times over the past few years when I wondered if we would ever consistently attain this kind of joy together. She can be a dominant, moody, emotional mare that has had us in a number of encounters, the sort of things that took her through three owners in her first 5 years. It took us a good while to trust one another, for me to rely on her willingness to readily give me leadership when I asked for it, for her to trust that I would respect her nature and work with it instead of against it.
In the world of endurance riding there are plenty of people who ride it as a race, pushing themselves and their horses physically for top ten wins. This weekend, though, I reflected on another kind of endurance that I'm seeing more and more. It's the kind that nets eagerness and willingness from the horses, and from the riders, through an endurance that goes beyond the physical. It's an endurance for the long journey of the soul and spirit, one that perseveres in the face of challenges with a faithful return to an essential, respectful, playful delight in one another. It replaces a previous prioritizing and insistence on performance and behavior, and yet delightfully results in high quality for both of those. It builds bridges between the differences between us, horse and human, and has us both learning from one another in every moment. This is the kind of potent endurance, juicy and patient, that gives birth to so many good things in the rest of our lives, a creative font that nourishes and blesses us.
And it's the kind of endurance that we learn and practice at Journey Horse with our adventures into the horse/human connection: working and playing at liberty, bringing to bear current research and explorations in human consciousness, awakening our deepest creative sources for attending to the challenges of our lives and our times. We are pleased to have four venues for Journey Horse this November, including the Gold Coast in Queensland at beautiful Thunderbird Park. Read about it here. I hope you will join us there or at one of the other venues listed left. Additionally, I will be presenting at the EAGALA Pacific Conference in early December on "The Power of Story for Holistic Approaches to Equine Assisted Learning and Psychotherapy," and look forward to seeing some of you there. for information on Journey Horse and to register email or call 0409-646-665
