IF MY PEOPLE ...
"And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves" (Mark 11:17).

Apprehending Purpose
"...Let age speak, and added years
announce wisdom. But there is [a vital force]
a spirit [of intelligence] in man, and the
spirit of Shaddai, that gives discernment.
Long life does not make men wise, it is not
always the aged that give true award."
(Job 32:7-9 - Ber., Amp., Jerus., Knox.)

As I quietly stand still this day to ponder,
and quizzically reflect on my life, it is my
intention at this time to
begin to consider some rather deep issues. I feel
compelled today to pick up the 'magnifying
glass', and to zoom in on to certain
pertinent matters in a rather reflective mood.
One thing that seems obvious to me is
that
the gospel writers - Matthew, Mark, Luke and
John - clearly wrote things which they
themselves could not really explain, or point
out how they related to practical, everyday
Christianity. God had to raise up an Apostle
Paul to come exegete and explain what the
gospel writers wrote.
In Ephesians chapter 2, Paul takes
time to
paint a very vivid picture of the way we were
before we got saved. At that time, we were
lost and undone; alienated from the
commonwealth of Israel; enemies of God, and
without any hope in this world. But at the
appointed time, Christ came along, and
brought us out of darkness into His
marvelous light. Hallelujah!
You see, there was no way you or I could
possibly have come to Him except he first
called (Kaleo in the
Greek) us!
God's call is a Divine invitation,
beckoning,
or license to do for God, and
with God the
things we could not do before. This Divine
invitation according to Romans 8:28-30 is
based on :
1. His fore-knowledge
(verse 29).
2. His pre-destination
(verses
29 - 30).
3. His purpose (verse 28).
At this point, certain conclusions
can be drawn:
God fore-knew me i.e. he
already knew
me ever before I was formed in my mother's
womb back in 1961.
God pre-destined me i.e.
he already
established my end (or destiny) from the
beginning.
God has a purpose for my
life i.e. He
had something in mind when He brought me into
this world in July of 1962.
God called me according to
His grace
and mercy.
God is taking me on a
journey. li>
God knows where my life's
journey will end.
"And we know that all things
work together
for good to them that love God, to them who
are the called according to his
purpose. For
whom he did foreknow, he also did
predestinate to be conformed to the image of
his Son, that he might be the firstborn among
many brethren. Moreover whom he did
predestinate, them he also called: and whom
he called, them he also justified: and whom
he justified, them he also glorified."
(Romans 8:28-30 - KJV.).
 ..to be continued.

Holy Humor.

This fundamentalist Christian couple felt it
important to own an equally fundamentally
Christian pet. So, they went shopping. At a
kennel specializing in this particular breed,
they found a dog they liked quite a lot. When
they asked the dog to fetch the Bible, he did
it in a flash. When they instructed him to
look up Psalm 23, he complied equally fast,
using his paws with dexterity.
They were impressed, purchased the
animal, and went home (piously, of course).
That night they had friends over. They were
so proud of their new fundamentalist dog and
his major skills, they called the dog and
showed off a little. The friends were
impressed, and asked whether the dog was able
to do any of the usual dog tricks, as well.
This stopped the couple cold, as they hadn't
thought about 'normal' tricks.
"Well," they said, "let's try this out."
Once more they called out to the dog,
and then clearly pronounced the command,
"Heel!"
Quick as a wink, the dog jumped up,
put his paw on the man's forehead, closed his
eyes in concentration, and bowed his head.
