The Captain of The Lord's hosts.
"And it came to pass, when Joshua was by
Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and
looked, and, behold, there stood a man over
against him with his sword drawn in his hand:
and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him,
Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And
he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of
the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on
his face to the earth, and did worship, and
said unto him, What saith my lord unto his
servant? And the captain of the LORD's
host
said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy
foot; for the place whereon thou standest is
holy. And Joshua did so." (Joshua
5:13-15).

Abraham, Moses, Joshua, and David were all
great military leaders of their own time;
however, none of them compare with the Lord
Jesus Christ who Himself is the Captain of
the Lord's Hosts, and the Captain of our
Salvation.
The Captain of the Lord's Hosts was no
ordinary man! In the Bible, the term
"Captain" applied to:
1. The King, or Prince of a
people (I Sam.
9:16).
2. A General, or Commander
in an army
(Gen. 26:26; II Sam. 5:8).
3. The Head of a family, or
tribe (Num. 2:3).
4. Such as have the command
of a company
(Deut. 1:15).
5. Christ Jesus, the
Captain of salvation
(Heb. 2:10).
Christ our Captain is portrayed in
Scriptures
as being better, stronger, mightier, greater,
superior, and more excellent than the
prophets, the angels, the priests, Moses,
Joshua, Melchizedek, Abraham, Aaron, and all
other earthly leaders.
If the Lord Jesus be for us, who can
stand in
our way? ...for "The LORD is the
strength of
my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"
(Psalm
27:1).
Onward Christian soldier, be strong,
be bold,
be courageous, your Captain, the Lion of the
tribe of Judah has broken every yoke; he has
vanquished every foe, and shall continually
give you the victory again, and again.
Amen!
