As His Own Soul (III).
"Then Jonathan and David made a
covenant, because he loved him as his own
soul." (I Samuel 18:3).

As we go about establishing relationships,
it is wise to always recognize that at one
time or the other in our lives, we will be
surrounded by one or more of the following
kinds of people:
1. Those who
'add' to us - These
kinds of people add to our lives spiritually,
financially, academically, or otherwise.
There is a tangible benefiting from our
relating with them. We are more or less
'sharpened' as we fellowship with
them (Pr. 27:17).
2. Those who
'subtract' from us -
These guys are more or less like leeches and
'suckers.' They reduce and drain us. They are
only in the relationship for what they can
get out of it. They on their own part do not
really have anything to offer. (Pr. 19:4).
3. Those who
'divide' - These folk go
about causing divisions. All they have to
offer is separations and divisions; and they
have an uncanny 'anointing' for such. (Pr.
16:28).
4. Those who
'multiply' us - These people
have the ability to multiply whatever grace
was on us before we met them. As we relate
with them, they boost our lives not just by
additions, but in an exponential or
synergistic fashion (Deut. 32:30).
5. The
'zero' people - These
kinds of folk neither add to, nor subtract
from us. They are just there! (Isa. 22:13).
It is also interesting to note that
the 'subtracters' and the 'dividers' are both
Yesterday people. In other
words, all they
talk about when they come around you is about
the woes, failures, and challenges of yester
years. They whine, and bask in the pains of
yesterday without necessarily looking forward
to a brighter tomorrow.
Where as, the 'adders' and
'multiplyers' are Tomorrow
people; they may
have experienced failures before, but they
never pitch a tent around such failures. They
have big dreams, great visions, and hopes of
a glorious tomorrow; and they have a divine
endowment to impart the same enthusiasm, and
optimism on those around them.
The 'zero' guys only live for today.
They have a rather queer philosophy of life
that says "Let us eat and drink today, for
tomorrow, we die!" (I Cor. 15:32).
They are
Today people. They are not
aspiring to be
anything, or do anything; they have no big
dreams, and are not in pursuit of any goals.
Beloved in the Lord, it is only wise
to recognize that in relating with people,
those who do not increase you will
inevitably
decrease you (Spiritually, morally,
academically, financially, emotionally, or
otherwise).
Those who lie down with dogs with
rise up with fleas!!!
"He that walketh with wise men
shall
be wise: but a companion of fools shall be
destroyed." (Proverbs 13:20).
 ...to be continued...

Holy Humor.
The two thousand member Baptist church was
filled to overflowing capacity one Sunday
morning. The preacher was ready to start the
sermon when two men, dressed in long black
coats and black hats entered thru the rear of
the church.
One of the two men walked to the
middle of the church while the other stayed
at the back of the church. They both then
reached under their coats and withdrew
automatic weapons.
The one in the middle announced,
"Everyone willing to take a bullet for Jesus
stay in your seats!"
Naturally, the pews emptied, followed
by the choir. The deacons ran out the door,
followed by the choir director and the
assistant pastor.
After a few moments, there were about
twenty people left sitting in the church. The
preacher was holding steady in the pulpit.
The men put their weapons away and
said, gently, to the preacher, "All right,
pastor, the hypocrites are gone now. You may
begin the service."
