The Exemplary Lifestyle (IV).
"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity." (I Timothy 4:12).

The apostle Paul having adviced his youthful son in the Lord, Timothy, to be an example in word, charity, spirit, faith, and purity, went a step further to show him how to achieve these things.

It's no use demanding that I be something that I don't even know how to be!

According to Paul, the pathway to becoming an exemplary Christian would include:

1. Reading
"Till I come, give attendance to reading, exhortation, to doctrine." (v.13)

Reading will involve studying based on a hunger, passion, and quest for knowledge. Men who will be leaders must of a necessity be readers!

2. Exhortation
Exhortation involves entreaty, admonition, encouragement, imploration, supplication, persuasive discourse. Exemplary people are people who often engage in meaningful exhortations.

3. Doctrine
Exemplary people will give attention to understanding precepts, teachings and instructions. This area seems to be very much missing in Christiandom today: There are many exciting teachings, but not much doctrine. Paul however insisted that if Timothy must be an example, he must give attention to sound biblical doctrine!

In verses 14 and 15, the apostle concludes by asking that we:
(a) Don't neglect the gift (or the grace) of God on our lives.
(b) Meditate on all these things hitherto mentioned, and
(c) Give ourselves wholly to them.

This is the bible way of being living examples in the world we live in today!

Holy Humor.
Laughing Jesus A man and his ten-year-old son were on a fishing trip miles from home. At the boy's insistence, they decided to attend the Sunday worship service at a small rural church. The father forgot to bring any cash, so he reached in his pocket and gave his son a dime to drop in the offering plate as it was passed.

As they walked back to their car after the service, the father complained. "The service was too long," he lamented. "The sermon was boring, and the singing was off key."

Finally the boy said, "Daddy, I thought it was pretty good for a dime."

Ministry Update:
The annual MOVE-MENT Men's Retreat held this past weekend at Schooley's Mountain in New Jersey. The retreat saw men from various assemblies, cities and walks of life in attendance.

It was yet another glorious time at this mountain top experience as various men of God broke the Bread of life, and challenged men unto a closer walk with the Lord.
