The Exemplary Lifestyle.
"Let no man despise thy youth; but
be thou an example of the believers,
in word, in conversation, in charity, in
spirit, in faith, in purity." (I
Timothy 4:12).

The God we serve is a God who believes in
progressions; and from time to time, He takes
us through series of progressions and phases
in our lifetime.
Apostle Paul declared that when he
was in the childish phase, he spoke and
reasoned as a child; however, when he came to
the phase of manhood, he put away childish
things (I Corinthians 13:11).
Again, in Paul's epistle to the
Corinthians, he emphasized that as long as
they remained in the carnal phase, and kept
on acting like 'babes', he could not speak to
them like those who had matured into the
phase of real spirituality (I Corinthians 3:1).
There are obvious transition phases
between childhood and adulthood; and between
boyhood and manhood. Paul was a young man
before, and as a young man, he did a lot of
crazy things (Acts 7:58). But now that the
apostle was an older, and a more matured man
in the Lord, he was in a position to offer
sound counsel to Timothy his son in the Lord:
COUNSEL #1:
"Let no man despise thy
youth" (v.12).
To despise (kataphroneo in
Greek) means to contemn, disdain, or think
little or nothing of.
Young, youthful men are sometimes
honored by God with great gifts, for
usefulness in church and state. These youth
must never be despised on account of their
age when they are gifted for performance.
Paul advised youthful Timothy never to act in
such a manner that any shall despise him on
account of his youthfulness. Rather, he was
to conduct himself with all gravity and
decorum which becometh a child of God.
I believe that this counsel is still
very valid for every Christian, even in 2009.
"Let no one think slightly of
you because you are a young man..."
(WNT.)
