Lampstand Anointing.
"And the spirit of the Lord
shall rest
upon him, the spirit of wisdom and
understanding, the spirit of counsel and
might, the spirit of knowledge and of the
fear of the LORD." (Isaiah 11:2).

The Holy Spirit is the forgotten or unknown
person of the trinity. The Father and Son are
clearly focused because most of us can
identify with a Father or Son, but a Spirit
is difficult to envision.
In today's teaching we will attempt
to unravel the mystery of the seven-fold
names of the Spirit, and how these names
apply to the Messiah in the New Testament.
Isaiah 11:2 lists seven names or
titles given to the Holy Spirit. This list is
not a mere repetition, but the seven
descriptions are purposefully presented to
portray the Spirit which would rest upon the
Messiah (i.e. Jesus Christ). In the context
of Isaiah's prophecy, these names of the Holy
Spirit have specific reference to the
anointing of the Spirit which rested upon
Jesus during His public ministry.
In a broader sense, each of these
names emphasizes some aspect of the character
and work of the Holy Spirit in our lives even
today. This seven-fold arrangement of the
names of the Holy Spirit is comparable with
the gold lampstand of the tabernacle (Exodus
25:31-40).
In this comparison, the first name,
"the Spirit of the Lord" is comparable
with
the central light of the lampstand. You see,
Christ's kingdom is of a spiritual nature,
and administered in a spiritual manner, for
which He was abundantly furnished by the
"Spirit of the Lord" resting upon Him without
measure.
The other six names are compared to
the three pairs of branches coming out of the
lamp. It is interesting to note that these
names can be categorized as follows:
1. The Spirit of Wisdom and
Understanding: This was put on display in
his disputation with the doctors; in His
answers to the ensnaring questions of the
Scribes and Pharisees; in the whole of His
ministry; and in His conduct at His
apprehension, trial, condemnation, and death.
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding relate
to Intellectual Ability.
2. The Spirit of Counsel and
Might: This fitted Jesus to be the
wonderful Counselor, and qualified him to
give suitable and proper advice to the sons
of men; and of "might" or "power", to preach
the Gospel with authority; and to do miracles
in the confirmation of it. The Spirit of
counsel and might relate to Practical
Activity.
3. The Spirit of Knowledge, and
the Fear of the Lord: All the treasures
of wisdom and knowledge were hid in him,
which he communicates with his saints; and of
"the fear of the Lord", as He strives to
always do the things which please the Father.
(Heb. 5:7). The Spirit of knowledge and fear
of the Lord relate to Relationship with
God.
Hallelujah!

Holy Humor.
After driving up and down several lanes, I
finally found a parking spot at the shopping
mall. I noticed another man driving very
slowly in the same direction, and, since he
was closer, I gave him the "Are you going to
park there?" look.
His responding gestures were very
confusing. First he shook his head. Next he
pointed at me, then at the parking space and
then at himself, his watch and the mall.
Finishing off, he frowned, raised his palms
upward and shrugged. Once I parked, I walked
over to the driver to make sure he didn't
want the space.
"You must be single," he replied.
"If you were married, you would've known
that was the universal sign for 'Go ahead and
take the spot. I'm waiting for my wife.'"
