The Comfort of the Spirit (III).
"And I will pray the Father, and He
shall give you another Comforter, so that
He
may be with you forever, the Spirit of Truth,
whom the world cannot receive because it does
not see Him nor know Him. But
you know Him,
for He dwells with you and shall be in
you. I
will not leave you orphans. I will come to
you. Yet a little while and the world does
not see Me any more. But you see Me. Because
I live, you shall live also." (John
14:16-19 MKJV.)
5. Dove: "And Jesus, when he
was baptized, went up straightway out of the
water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto
him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending
like a dove, and lighting upon
him." (Mat. 3:16).
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS SYMBOLIZED AS A
DOVE HERE TO DEPICT HIS PEACEFUL, MEEK AND
GENTLE NATURE.
6. A Voice: "And
thine ears shall hear a word behind
thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it,
when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye
turn to the left. And after the earthquake a
fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and
after the fire a still small
voice." (Isa. 30:21; I Kings 19:12).
THE HOLY GHOST IS HERE AGAIN SHOWN TO
BE A SPEAKING, GUIDING, WARNING, AND
COUNSELING VOICE.
7. A Seal: "And
grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye
are sealed unto the day of
redemption." (Eph. 4:30).
AS A SEAL, THE HOLY GHOST SECURES,
AUTHENTICATES, ACCREDITS, AND GIVES A PROOF
OF OWNERSHIP FOR THE CHILD OF GOD.
8. Oil: "Thou lovest
righteousness, and hatest wickedness:
therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee
with the oil of gladness above thy
fellows." (Ps. 45:7).
THE SPIRIT OF GOD IS HERE SYMBOLIZED
BY OIL TO SHOW HIS CONSECRATING,
ILLUMINATING, HEALING AND COMFORTING QUALITIES.
Our prayer today should be that the Holy
Ghost would function in all of these
dimensions in our lives: That as Water, He
would cleanse and refresh us; as Rain (or
Dew), He would abundantly fertilize our
lives; as Fire, He would purify,
illuminate,
refine and kindle within us; as Wind, He
would revive us; as a Dove, he would
impart
the peace of God that passeth all
understanding upon us; as a Seal, He would
secure and stamp the mark of God's ownership
upon our lives; and as Oil, He would
consecrate, illuminate, heal and comfort us
on every side.
Amen!

Holy Humor.
On a sunny Sunday afternoon, two young
church members were going door to door to
invite people to visit their services. When
they knocked on one door, it was immediately
clear the woman who answered was not happy to
see them.
She told them in no uncertain terms
that she did not want to hear their message,
and before they could say anything more, she
slammed the door in their faces.
To her surprise, however, the door
did not close; in fact, it bounced back open.
She tried again, really putting her back into
it, and slammed it again with the same result
- the door bounced back open.
Convinced these rude young people
were sticking their foot in her door, she
reared back to give it a slam that would
teach them a lesson. Just then, one of them
said quietly: "Ma'am, before you do that
again, you really need to move your cat."
