With October being, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many wineries share their profits to benefit Breast Cancer Research. Even though this e-newsletter is arriving a bit late in the month, it's not too late to stock up and support the cause!
To date, Big Tattoo Wines has raised more than $1,200,000 in charitable funds, with breast cancer research and awareness initiatives being one of the major beneficiaries. Born as a tribute to a mother who lost her own battle cancer, they will donate 50 cents for every bottle sold nationwide to Breast Cancer Network of Strength whose mission is to ensure through information, empowerment and peer support that no one faces breast cancer alone.
Fat Bastards will donate 25 cents for every bottle sold during the donation period. FAT bastard wines are easy to spot on the shelf wearing the special "Live Large, Spread Hope" necker with an attached enamel pink ribbon pin to wear in show of your support.
Help Save or Celebrate a Goddess! Five Rivers Winery has made it their mission to build awareness for the treatment, prevention and advocacy of women's cancers. If you would like to share a story about someone who has survived or is courageously battling breast, ovarian, cervical or uterine cancer or someone who has made a difference in caring for those with cancer, click here. Every other month they select an inspiring individual to receive a $250 Spa Finder Gift Certificate. By sharing your stories, you can provide inspiration and hope to others. |

We do not know the favorite wine of either presidential candidate, but wouldn't it be interesting to know? According to an article in Simply Wine's September issue, wine's relationship with the White House can be traced back to our founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson, who served as America's minister to France in the late 1780's developed a passion for viticulture. He described wine as "necessary for life" itself and when he became President in 1801, he built the first wine cellar in the White House. Jefferson predicted that someday American wines would rival French wines in quality. In 1987, President Ronald Reagan validated Jefferson's claim, toasting French Prime Minister, Jacques Cahirac, at a dinner with a California wine.
For a patriotic brew, how about serving Liberty Ale brewed by the Anchor Brewing Company. | |
