Welcome to Keogh & Associates Consulting, LLC
Greetings!
This edition centers on a
country that we need to be familiar with: Mexico. See below for, a
short article with my take on Taco Bell re-opening operations in Mexico after a
15-year hiatus. Yum Brand's Inc. hopes that Mexico's relatively youthful
population of 107 million, and its proven taste for fast food could make it an
attractive business.
My company now provides Destination Services for expatriates arriving in Mexico.
Our trained consultants, coordinated from our Mexico City office, provide a full gamut
of settling-in services and are available to assist expatriates, and their families. We also provide services to business travelers
who need to maximize their effectiveness on trips to Mexico.

Mexico: cross-cultural food
On Monday, October 10, 2007,
Yum Brands reported third-quarter profits rose 21 percent in its international
division and 28 percent in China,
while U.S.
profits rose a scant 1 percent. Same-store sales at company-owned Taco Bells
fell 6 percent for the three months ended Sept. 8.
Taco Bell,
made its name promoting its menu to Americans as something straight out of Mexico.
But it's a very different dynamic south of the border.Read more in this PDF file

Destination Services: Mexico
Coordinated from our offices in the US and in Mexico City, Keogh & Associates Consulting, LLC can
provide your expats and travelers with truly caring, comprehensive and
professional services. Our experience in
the relocation industry indicates that the most useful preparation activities
for an international assignment are cultural training, language classes and a
pre-assignment visit. We provide all
three plus on-going expatriate support.
Our experience and superb contact network in Mexico enables us to combine
state-of-the-industry services combined with the warm hospitality so
characteristic of the Mexican people.
Here are some lessons we have learned from the assignees and
business travelers that we have assisted in Mexico that we incorporate into our
service offerings.
- Provide up-front counseling services to establish
compatibility with the assignment.
- Arrange a pre-assignment visit so that they get a
feel for the city or areas that they might want to live in according to safety
and location, including identification and tour of local health services, and
schools, etc.
- Introduce them to local support groups in the area.
- Provide them with cross-cultural training, including
on-going expatriate coaching on assignment.
- Provide the employees up with a mentoring program.
- Make sure cross-cultural courses use local examples
(such as how to get cable or phone service, how to manage domestic help,
security). Too many cross-cultural courses are not specific enough for
stressed expatriates.
- Focus on preparation and support as people get to
their overseas locations. The real learning takes place as they confront the
actual challenges.
- Prepare the whole family for the assignment. Mexico is a
very family oriented society and children can make the transition easier for
parents when they are prepared.
- The Destination Services provider should have a good
working relationship with the HR group where the expat will be assigned.
- Language training is a must - at the very least,
survival language.
- Prepare them to think ahead of how they will face a
crisis that may come up - for instance if a family member becomes seriously ill.
