Friends and Colleagues:
Spring is right around the corner, and I don't know about
you, but to me, Spring signals a renewal of the mind, body
and spirit. Spring is all about a fresh start - whether it is a
new job or a fresh outlook on your current job, relocating to
a new house, or fixing up your current home, as nature
transforms itself so do we as human beings.
Many of us rush to the hardware store at the first sign of
spring, picking out fresh plants, paint, hardware or lumber
for all those spring projects. Some of us take on ourselves as
project, joining the gym or trying out the latest diet craze -
from South Beach to Sonoma - what will they come up with
next! Others look inward by seeking out new spiritual
guidance. As the days get longer, think about how you want
to make a fresh start this Spring! In this edition of my newsletter, I would like to share an
excerpt from a book I am currently writing on various
management styles and how to
motivate people. I my book I plan to share tips
and tidbits on successfully managing people, illustrated by
anecdotes and case studies from clients I have worked
with over the years. I would love your feedback on this topic,
and perhaps
you have some successes that you would like to share with
me. Please feel free to e-mail me at
joesorrent@aol.com, I'd love
to hear from you!
Sincerely,
Joe
P.S. Please feel free to forward this newsletter to your
friends and colleagues who you think might benefit from this
information.
| Abstract Management |
|
Recently, a member of my Saturday morning men’s group,
which I have been meeting with for more than six years
asked me “What was the reason that you are so successful in
turning around companies? What is the silver bullet you
possess, and can you teach anyone how to do what you do?”
This is not the first time that someone has asked this
question. I have addressed this same topic with the various
companies I have helped to turn around, and also shared my
thoughts with audiences at conferences and tradeshows
including SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers), ASQ
(American Society for Quality) and AWS (American Welding
Society).
Unfortunately, there is no “silver bullet” when it comes to
creating a successful and profitable company. My methods
are based in the idea of “Abstract Management” which is a
combination of discernment, love and action. It has been my
experience that textbook management, or management
practices based on academic theories cannot produce the
same results as possessing a clear understanding of the
personality of a given company.
Look for more from me on this topic in the coming months!
