It's not too late to apply
Students can still apply for Financial Aid. To complete the Federal Application For Financial Aid (FAFSA) visit www.fafsa.gov . To apply for the Board of Governor's Fee Waiver, which if eligible, waives the $46 per unit enrollment fee for students who are California Residents, visit www.CCCApply.org . Student Drop In Visits - Strictly for submission of non-verification documents during regular hours. Financial Aid Check-In and Financial Aid Annex are available to answer general questions. Student Appointments - Students who have been selected for verification by the Department of Education must schedule an appointment for submission of documents to the Financial Aid Office. Please call 925-685-1230 ext. 3000 for scheduling. Cal Grant Awards - Update The State of California has reduced the Cal Grant B and Cal Grant C maximum award amounts by 5% for new and renewal Cal Grant recipients. Cal Grant maximum award amounts for the 2012 - 2013 academic year are as follows: Cal Grant B - $1,473, Cal Grant C - $547. Financial Aid updates are posted on the both the Financial Aid Web page and Portal. Please view these sites periodically for new information. |
Earn college credit while you work
Cooperative Work Experience has added one more orientation session for students who still need an orientation to meet Co-op course requirements. The new orientation will be held on
Friday, August 31 from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m., on the Pleasant Hill campus, H-110. Interested students should email coopdvc@dvc.edu or call the Co-op Office at 925-685-1230 ext. 2540 to reserve a seat. Cooperative Work Experience (Co-op) is an academic course that allows you to earn elective credit for learning that takes place at your job or internship. You must have a paid or unpaid (volunteer) job to participate. For more information go to www.dvc.edu/coop .

Campus Alert System Your attention please...
A loud siren will be heard throughout the DVC campuses the first Wednesday of every month at 11 a.m. This will be a test of our Campus Alert System. There is nothing you need to do during a siren test.
In the event of an actual emergency or crisis situation, the siren sound will continue for three minutes. Students and all campus personnel will be instructed to Shelter, Shut, and Listen. Want to make a difference?
Join the student government! The Associated Students of DVC (ASDVC) is currently recruiting new members. To join, attend an info session where you will learn about what ASDVC does, what the requirements are, and get a petition to join. For a list of info sessions, go to the DVC Events Calendar and click on Clubs and Organizations.
The deadline to submit the completed petition is Thursday, September 6 at 4:30 p.m. There is a mandatory retreat Friday, September 7 from 1-5 p.m. and Saturday, September 8 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. in the Student Union Building. Meetings are every Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Student Union Conference Room, beginning September 11.

Become a DVC Student Ambassador!
DVC Student Ambassadors recruitment is under way. These student leaders work under the direction of the Relations with Schools Office/Welcome Center or San Ramon Student Services (depending on location assignment) to represent DVC to future, current and returning students and their families. They provide campus tours, answer questions about DVC, and assist students with enrollment steps. For more information and to download application materials, visit www.dvc.edu/ambassadors . Completed applications are due no later than 12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19.

Club Day is just around the corner!
Come check out the variety of clubs this semester - it's a great way to get involved on campus and create friendships at the same time! Clubs will be promoting in the Student Union Quad from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. on September 11 and 12.
Attention new and returning club officers! The Student Life Office is now offering officer trainings to help you develop your organizations. Tutors needed for fall 2012 and spring 2013
We need to work with low income middle and high school students. Educational Talent Search seeks volunteer tutors to work on the DVC campus and Upward Bound seeks paid tutors to work at local high schools. Tutors are needed in math, English, science, history and Spanish to assist students with homework, Monday - Thursday from 3:30-5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. for fall and spring semesters beginning September 17. Future math and science teachers are needed to work as teacher assistants (TA) at local middle and high schools. Teacher assistants must be interested in becoming a math or science teacher at the secondary level after college graduation. This is a paid position for domestic DVC students only. Must be available between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. for a 2 to 3 hour block of time. Please contact Jackqueline Jones-Castellano at jjonesca@dvc.edu.

Earn Extra Credit!
Attend one or more of our workshops and get an opportunity to earn extra credit! College Success Workshops address a wide variety of academically related topics, including issues with writing, note taking, study skills and preparing for exams. Please check out the College Success Workshop schedule. Brown Bag lectures are more personal or developmental in nature and are Thursdays from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Student Union Conference Room. Visit the DVC garden
The DVC garden will be open every Friday from 9:30 a.m.-noon, from August through November, for anyone who wishes to visit or harvest. Nursery plants will be for sale -- herbs, fall vegetables, succulents, geraniums, miniature ivies, and much, much more.
