November 12 - Veteran's  Day holiday - college closed

November 19 - Last day to withdraw from full-term classes with a "W" appearing on transcript

November 25-28 - Thanksgiving weekend holiday - college closed, no Saturday/Sunday classes.  Classes resume November 29.


White House Summit on Community College
On October 5, 2010 Dr. Jill Biden will chair the first-ever White House Summit on Community Colleges. President Obama asked Dr. Biden to convene this event to highlight the critical role that community colleges play in developing America's workforce and reaching our educational goals.  Our district chancellor, Helen Benjamin, has been invited to attend.

DVC Scholarship Scholarship program
Scholarships are available for DVC students who are new, continuing, or transferring to a four-year college or university fall 2011. One application plus two letters of recommendation can qualify for multiple scholarships.  Thousands of dollars are available through the DVC Scholarship Program.
 
The application period is Oct. 1, 2010 through noon on Feb. 2, 2011. Stop by the DVC Scholarship Office for other scholarship opportunities.

Transfer Day is Monday, Oct. 4, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

CSU application filing period begins Oct. 1
The CSU application filing period is Oct. 1-Nov. 30, 2010 for fall 2011. Visit the Transfer Center to prepare your application or go to www.csumentor.edu.  CSU East Bay is accepting TAG agreements for fall 2011 admission. Schedule an appointment with a DVC counselor to sign an agreement.

Fall 2011 UC Personal Statement Workshops coming soon!
Workshops with tips on how to write a winning personal statement. Watch for signup dates in October and November.
 
UC application website opens Oct. 1
Start your UC application in October and then submit online during the Nov. 1-30 filing period for fall 2011 admission. The Transfer Center computer lab will be open during business hours to help you.
 
Check out private California university application filing periods at www.aiccu.edu.  Stop by the Transfer Center if you need help in determining filing periods for any of your college choices.

Transfer Center coming to San Ramon Valley Center!
Do you have transfer questions?  A Transfer Center representative will be in the Learning Commons at the San Ramon Valley Center to answer your transfer questions.  No appointment needed - simply drop in between 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.

Counseling appointments
Students may schedule a counseling appointment through our website, www.dvc.edu/counseling/esars         

ESARS - Counseling Appointment Program for DVC students who have only attended Diablo Valley College. You must have a Student ID number to use this program. If you do not know your student ID number, please go to the DVC Admissions Office or the Information Center to obtain your ID number. Students may also schedule counseling appointments in person and over the phone, 925-685-1230 ext. 2276 or 2278.

UC TAGS
A reminder from the Counseling Department to DVC students who would like to utilize a UC TAG for fall 2011 transfer Sept. 30 at 11:59 p.m. is the last time to submit a TAG application to any of the seven participating UC campuses.  To complete your TAG, please include fall 2010 courses that are in progress and spring 2011 course that are planned.  Please submit your TAG in a timely manner for there will be no consideration for TAGs submitted after the deadline.

DVC Financial Aid Financial Aid -- the deadline is coming up!
To ensure the process of financial aid files, including appeals, students will be required to complete and submit ALL necessary documents to the Financial Aid Office no later than Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 to receive payments by the end of the fall 2010 semester. Documents received after this date will be processed for retroactive payment, if eligible, in the spring 2011 semester. For more information visit www.dvc.edu/financialaid/.

Shots will be administered by a RN from Sutter Visiting Nurse Association, a non-profit community based health organization.  All proceeds from their flu shot clinics help support local home care and end of life cares services.

Educational Talent Search Program Educational Talent Search Program
Are you interested in becoming a math or science teacher at the secondary level? Want to gain experience working in a classroom environment. The Educational Talent Search Program at DVC seeks Teacher Assistants for fall 2010 and spring 2011.

Teacher Assistants (TA) are needed to work with local middle and high school students. Students interested in being a TA should contact Jackie Castellano at [email protected].
