Spring Into Savings - Part 1

As gas prices increase, transit riders save even more money! To find out exactly how much, check out the fuel savings calculator

After taking into account car maintenance, parking fees and, of course, higher gas prices, individuals who ride public transportation instead of driving their car can save on average $816/month and $9,790/annually, according to the most recent Transit Savings Report by the American Public Transportation Association.

A 1-Day Unlimited HARTride Fare Card is $3.75 and 31-Day Unlimited HARTride Fare Card is $60. Ten-Pack and 3-Day bundles are also available, as well as discounts for seniors and youth. For more information about these fares, and schedules for bus routes and express routes, visit www.goHART.org

Taking public transit to save money is smart, and HART has also been smart when it comes to its own fuel savings. HART partnered up with neighboring transit agencies to purchase fuel in bulk and lock down low gas prices for the future. In the long-term, HART will replace its fleet of more than 200 to compressed natural gas vehicles. That's thanks to a federal grant HART recently received to build a compressed natural gas station. Many of us ride public transit, but we all benefit -- so find out more ways we're HART at Work to build a sustainable future for transit in Hillsborough County.

These items are available for sale at Marion Transit Center in downtown Tampa and University Area Transit Center. HART savings go beyond leaving the pain at the pump -- collect the extra cash, avoid fines and magnify the savings!

Did you know it's the law?

According to Section 316.2065, F.S., a bicycle operated between sunset and sunrise must be equipped with a lamp on the front exhibiting a white light visible from 500 feet to the front and both a red reflector and a lamp on the rear exhibiting a red light visible from 600 feet to the rear. Avoid police fines and follow the rules -- clip on some extra HART flashers for added safety!

March is Florida's Bike Month, and it's a good time to get a bicycle safety refresher course, offered by Tampa BayCycle. And, find out exactly why bicycles and buses are BFFs:  Watch Bikes on Buses gets Better
