Fran Davin Elected as HART Board Chair

Fran_Davin_2011During its regular meeting today, the HART Board elected Fran Davin as chair, Steve Polzin, PhD, as vice chair and Tampa City Councilman Mike Suarez as secretary of the HART Board of Directors for 2012.

Ms. Davin was one of the founding members of the HART Board in the 1980s. She joined the HART Board again in 2007 when she was appointed by the Mayor of Tampa, and she was recently reappointed in 2011 for a four-year term. She previously served as vice president and secretary of the HART Board. Ms. Davin has been a long-time resident of Tampa and has provided service to many government and non-profit agencies, including two terms to the Hillsborough County Commission, Tampa City Council (appointed), vice president at Tampa General Hospital and immediate past chair of MacDonald Training Center. She currently resides in New Tampa.

The HART Board sets the direction for this community's public transit system in Hillsborough County, and is made up of 13 volunteers who are appointed to represent Hillsborough County (seven seats), City of Tampa (three seats), State of Florida (two seats) and City of Temple Terrace (one seat). Officers of the HART Board (chair, vice chair and secretary) are elected every year.

In other matters, the HART Board voted today to accept $800,000 in Job Access Reverse Commute (JARC) funding to assist with operating costs of existing late-night and weekend HART bus service, as well as enhance frequency at other time periods. JARC provides federal funding for public transit improvements that benefit low-income and unemployed populations.
