September numbers are in, which brings the HART Fiscal Year 2011 to a close. Ridership highlights:
- September bus ridership was up 6.6 percent, compared to the same month last year.
- Fiscal Year 2011 bus ridership was up by 1.4 million trips, or 11.7 percent, compared to last year (2011 was 13,699,686; 2010 was 12,264,357)
- Fiscal Year 2011 bus ridership of 13,699,686 marks an all-time high for HART!
- Fiscal Year 2011 bus ridership breakdown:
- Sunday ridership was up 24.3 percent
- Weekday ridership was up 11.6 percent
- Express ridership was up 10.2 percent
- Saturday ridership was up 5.7 percent
Other HART Highlights in Fiscal Year 2011:
- HARTFlex expanded in July 2011 from two to five zones: Brandon, South County, Northdale (new), South Tampa (new), Town 'N Country (new)
- 50 shelters installed and 218 bus stops improved (i.e. landing pads, sidewalks) throughout Hillsborough County, including Cities of Tampa and Temple Terrace
- Introduced bus service on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day in 2010, which provided 14,400 trips and marked year-round public transit service
- Streetcar line extended and new streetcar station opened in December 2010
