Alison A. Hewitt

HART Board Chair

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Transit Board Members Committee has elected HART Board Chair Alison A. Hewitt to serve as chair of the Committee. The Transit Board Members Committee is made up of more than 250 members who lead transit systems throughout the United States and Canada. Hewitt's position as chair of this Committee continues to place HART on the national stage of the public transit industry.

"Economic sustainability will be on the agenda this year," Hewitt said. "This committee will explore options for the development of economic sustainability and financial structures that accommodate existing infrastructure and projected growth in public transit."

Hewitt is a nationally recognized leader in APTA and has held numerous positions in the organization. She has served as the regional representative, secretary and vice chair of the Transit Board Members Committee. In addition, she has held elected positions on the APTA Board of Directors, APTA Executive Committee of the Governing Board and the APTA Diversity Council.

Hewitt is the executive director of the Central Economic Development Center, Inc. (CEDC), a financial non-profit dedicated to providing technical assistance to developing small businesses as well as the creation of affordable housing. In 2006, she was appointed to the HART Board by Gov. Jeb Bush. She now serves as the HART Board Chair, leading the agency into record-setting bus ridership levels. In an effort to provide opportunities for local small businesses to participate in federal, state and local procurements, Hewitt has championed the expansion of the HART Business Diversity Program.
