July Ridership Up 3%

Express Bus Ridership Up 18%

HART ridership is up once again!

With a total of 1,060,798 bus trips taken in July 2011, ridership was up 3 percent compared to the same month last year. In addition, considering there were two fewer weekdays and two more Sundays last month compared to July 2010, a comparison of the average weekday ridership better depicts increased bus ridership demand:  Average weekday ridership in July 2011 was up 10 percent compared to the average weekday ridership in July 2010.

Average weekday ridership for express bus in July 2011 is up 18 percent compared to the same month last year. Express bus routes are designed to get people to work quickly, and HART operates 13 express routes that travel a combined 1,878 daily miles. Ten of the 13 HART express routes connect workers from every major residential area of Hillsborough County to Downtown Tampa. Below is the 4-1-1 on going express:

  • Park and Ride:  HART express routes are complemented by 24 free park-and-ride facilities throughout Hillsborough County.
  • Fares:  Express bus fares vary to fit the needs of every rider. From a $2.75 one-way pass that can be purchased with cash aboard the bus to a 31-Day Pass for $90. Limited express bus routes have a few more stops than regular express routes, but fares are less.
  • In-Town Trolley:  Express routes make drop-offs and picks-ups along Marion Transit Parkway, the core of Downtown Tampa, and express customers can use the In-Town Trolley - Purple Line at no extra cost to connect closer to their destination in Downtown Tampa. This line operates Monday - Friday, during morning and afternoon rush hour, on a 15-minute frequency.
  • Emergency Ride Home:  Don't worry about being stranded at work without a car in case of an emergency. Those who ride the bus at least twice a week may qualify for the Emergency Ride Program, which provides free taxi rides (up to eight each year) in case of personal illness, family emergency or unexpected overtime. To register, call TBARTA Commuter Services at 1-800-998-RIDE.
