Several government, business and community leaders will ride HART bus routes as part of Baycare Behavioral Health Systems "New Freedom" Legislative Transportation Awareness Days, taking place May 25, 27 and 31. The purpose of the New Freedom Grant is to educate leaders on the viability and accessibility of HART, as well as the challenges facing public transit riders. The grant also affords Baycare with the resources to provide travel training on how the community can use HART to receive medical care, maintain employment and improve quality of life.
Participants and their guests will receive no special accommodations and they will purchase their own bus fares.
· On Wednesday, May 25, 11 a.m., a representative from Congresswoman Kathy Castor's office will ride HART with local government officials, as well as representatives from Moffitt Cancer Center and the University of South Florida. They will take Route 7, beginning from Congresswoman Castor's Office at 4144 N. Armenia Ave.
· On Friday, May 27, 11:30 a.m., representatives from the offices of Congressman Gus Bilirakis and Senator Marco Rubio will ride HART with local government officials, as well as representatives from Baycare and law enforcement. They will take Route 33, beginning at the University Area Transit Center, 13110 N. 27th St. in Tampa
· On Tuesday, May 31, 11:45 a.m., Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandra Murman will ride HART with community leaders and representatives from Baycare. They will take Route 30, beginning at Marion Transit Way, a few blocks west of County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa.
