Tampa, Fla. - While agencies across the country are reporting declining ridership, HART has gone against the grain.
The June ridership numbers are in, and HART has reached its fourth consecutive month with over a million in bus ridership. The final tally at 1,035,007, is a
10.6% increase over June 2009. This is the first four-month streak since July - October 2008. Annually, HART's bus ridership is on track for
12 million riders.
The TECO Line Streetcar is also benefiting from ridership gains. Streetcar ridership for June was up with a
2.2% improvement over June 2009.
HART attributes the constant increase in ridership to customer service
investments made to key routes, expanding service to weekend and late nights and
upgrading customer amenities such as new buses and
more bus shelters.
HART perceives
that the sustained
ridership increases reflect the commitment Hillsborough County residents continue to make to public
transportation.
