PIANIST ANDRÁS SCHIFF PERFORMS BEETHOVEN
ON ARTIST SERIES


On Monday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m., András Schiffdistinguished pianist András Schiff will grace the stage of Macky Auditorium. The exquisitely sensitive master has earned first prizes at the Tchaikovsky and Leeds competitions, won two Grammy awards, and played in nearly every major concert hall in the world. In his solo recital on the CU Presents Artist Series, Schiff performs one of Beethoven's greatest piano masterworks, "The Diabelli Variations" and music by Bach and Bartók.

Biography
András Schiff

András Schiff has worked with most of the major international orchestras and conductors, but now performs mainly as conductor and soloist. This season, Carnegie Hall has named András Schiff as one of its prestigious Perspectives artists. Mr. Schiff has established a prolific discography, including recordings for London/Decca (1981-1994), Teldec (1994-1997) and, since 1997, ECM New Series. Recordings for ECM include the complete solo piano music of Beethoven and Janácek, a solo disc of Schumann piano pieces, the Bach Partitas and his second recording of the Bach Goldberg Variations. Mr. Schiff has been made an Honorary Professor by the Music Schools in Budapest, Detmold and Munich, and a Special Supernumerary Fellow of Balliol College (Oxford, UK).

About the Artist Series
The Artist Series, now in its 75th season, has a rich tradition of bringing the finest performers in the world to Boulder's Macky Auditorium. Recent performers on the series have included Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Thomas Hampson, and Arturo Sandoval. In addition to serving audiences with an exciting variety of performances, the Artist Series has an important educational mission, including outreach events planned in conjunction with almost every concert. The Artist Series is part of CU Presents which is hosted by the University of Colorado Boulder College of Music.
