TAKÁCS QUARTET JOINED BY CU-BOULDER FACULTY

The Takács Quartet is joined by several Takács Quartet CU-Boulder faculty members  in the Takács Chamber and Encore Series concerts on Sunday, February 12 and Monday, February 13. The quartet will perform Leos Janacek's second quartet "Intimate Letters." Michael Thornton, horn and Erika Eckert, viola will join the quartet for Mozart's "Quintet for Horn, Violin, 2 Violas and Cello." Margaret McDonald, piano will collaborate with the Takács in Dmitri Shostakovich's tragic "Piano Quintet in G minor." Performances are in Grusin Music Hall on Sunday, February 12 at 4 p.m. and Monday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. Ticket information is available

About the Takács Quartet

Takács Quartet members are Edward Dusinberre, violin; Károly Schranz, violin; Geraldine Walther, viola; and András Fejér, cello. The quartet has been in residence at the University of Colorado College of Music since 1983; its members were given permanent faculty appointments in 1986. They have recently performed at the Aspen, Ravinia and Tanglewood festivals and toured throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan. The Quartet was awarded the prestigious Gramophone Award in the "Best Chamber Music Performance" category in 1997 and in 2002. In 2000, they received a Grammy nomination for their recording of Schubert's "Trout Quintet." In 2003 the quartet received a Grammy Award in the "Best Chamber Music Performance" category for their recording of Beethoven's string quartets.  For more information, visit the Takács Quartet Website.
