CU-Boulder Jazz Ensemble I Performs
Duke Ellington's "Nutcracker Suite" 

The CU Jazz Ensemble I has been recognized as one of the nation's outstanding big bands. Graduates of the program have gone on to successful careers as educators and performers. The ensemble performs a wide variety of music each year, ranging from swing era music on CU's annual Spring Swing concert, performances with guest artists such as this year's guest Jon Faddis, to the contemporary sounds of the Grammy-winning Maria Schneider. On Thursday, December 8 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., the Ensemble will perform Duke Ellington's beloved "Nutcracker Suite" at Dazzle Restaurant and Lounge in Denver.

About the Jazz Studies Program
The award-winning CU Jazz Studies Program welcomes participation from students throughout the Boulder campus, regardless of major. All jazz bands and combos are placed through auditions held at the beginning of each semester, including three big bands and seven jazz combos. Each year, prominent jazz artists are invited to campus to perform and conduct clinics. Recent guests include Arturo Sandoval, Nnenna Freelon, Wynton Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Bobby Shew, Poncho Sanchez, Eliane Elias, and many others. This year, the program welcomes composer Maria Schneider, trumpeter Jon Faddis, Art Lande, pianist Michael Weiss, Greg Gisbert & Rob Scheps, the Ron Miles Trio, pianist Erik Deutsch, and others.
