FACULTY TUESDAY SERIES PRESENTS THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE
On Tuesday, November 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Grusin Music Hall, violist Erika Eckert, along with many of the College of Music faculty, will present a recital of works from all over the world that talk about love. The Language of Love features performances by Jennifer Bird-Arvidsson, soprano; Julie Simson, mezzo-soprano; Patrick Mason, baritone; Christina Jennings, flute; Lina Bahn, violin; Margaret Soper-Gutierrez, violin; Judith Glyde, cello; Margaret McDonald, piano and Mutsumi Moteki, piano. Highlights of the program include George Butterworth's Love Blows as the Wind Blows, Bright Sheng's Three Chinese Love Songs, Frank Martin's Quatre Sonnets à Cassandre and selections from Sergei Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet.This concert is free and open to the public. Biography Erika Eckert
Erika Eckert, Associate Professor of Viola at CU Boulder, and faculty member at both the Brevard Music Center and the 2012 North American Viola Institute, also served on the faculties of The Cleveland Institute of Music, Baldwin Wallace College, and the Chautauqua Institution in New York. As co-founder of the Cavani Quartet, she performed on major concert series worldwide and garnered an impressive list of awards and prizes, including first prize at the Naumburg Chamber Music Competition. Performing engagements include 400thGalileo Anniversary at the American Academy in Rome, El Paso Pro Musica International Chamber Music Festival, Australian Festival of Chamber Music, Sitka Summer Music Festival Autumn Classics, Fontana Chamber Arts, and solo performances at SEAMUS and ICMC. Teaching engagements include ASTA International Workshops in Australia and Norway, Perlman Music Program, Quartet Program, Suzuki Association of the Americas, Inc. Ninth Conference, Chamber Music Connection, and Interlochen Arts Academy. Ms. Eckert also served as adjudicator for the NFAA Arts Recognition and Talent Search, the exclusive nominating agency for the Presidential Scholars in the Arts, and appeared in their Academy Nominated Documentary, Rehearsing a Dream.
