CU OPERA PRESENTS MOZART'S BELOVED
WORK, THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO

Marriage of Figaro The CU Opera Program presents Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro in Macky Auditorium Friday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 23 at 2 p.m.

Mozart's charming classic about sex, love, intrigue, and marriage has delighted audiences since its scandalous premiere in 1786. Based on a play by Pierre Beaumarchais, this four-act opera buffa is a continuation of the story that began in The Barber of Seville. Figaro is now on the eve of his marriage, but the Count wants the favors of his beautiful wife-to-be, Susanna. Will the servants succeed in tricking their master into falling in love all over again with the Countess and win the chance to wed? Complex plotting, a sophisticated and intricate score, and timeless questions about marriage and fidelity make Figaro a cornerstone of the modern operatic repertoire.

CU Opera director Leigh Holman heads the production with music director Nicholas Carthy conducting the full orchestra.

The Marriage of Figaro will run approximately three hours in four acts with one intermission. The opera will be sung in Italian with English subtitles.
