Biography
Yamato

Yamato was founded in 1993 in the Nara prefecture by Masa Ogawa. The group performed a piece called "Hyuga" at a local festival and it took off from there with invitations from around the world. With only four members in their first performance, Yamato now boasts seventeen performers and more than 200 international performances a year. Yamato's dynamic performances reinterpret the ancient Japanese tradition of Taiko drumming. The group meshes music, dance, humor and spectacle, drawing strength from ancestral spiritual beliefs about the power of the drum.
