The first concert of the Takács Takács QuartetChamber and Encore Series takes place Sunday, September 18 and Monday, September 19, 2011. The 2011-12 Season's opening performances feature Haydn's beloved "Lark" Quartet in D major, the enigmatic String Quartet No. 1 by British composer, Benjamin Britten and the Slavonic-influenced Quartet No. 10 by Antonín Dvořák. Performances are in Grusin Music Hall on Sunday, September 18 at 4 p.m. and Monday, September 19 at 7:30 p.m. Ticket information is available online by visiting www.cupresents.org or by calling the CU Presents Box Office at

About the Takács Quartet

Takács Quartet members are Edward Dusinberre, violin; Károly Schranz, violin; Geraldine Walther, viola; and András Fejér, cello. The quartet has been in residence at the University of Colorado College of Music since 1983; its members were given permanent faculty appointments in 1986. They have recently performed at the Aspen, Ravinia and Tanglewood festivals and toured throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan. The Quartet was awarded the prestigious Gramophone Award in the "Best Chamber Music Performance" category in 1997 and in 2002. In 2000, they received a Grammy nomination for their recording of Schubert's "Trout Quintet." In 2003 the quartet received a Grammy Award in the "Best Chamber Music Performance" category for their recording of Beethoven's string quartets.  For more information, visit the Takács Quartet Website.
