Faculty Tuesdays Series Presents Preludes and Fugues of Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I
The CU-Boulder Faculty Tuesday Series presents harpsichordist, Elizabeth Farr in a performance of J.S. Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I. On Tuesday, September 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Grusin Music Hall, Farr will perform fourteen Preludes and Fugues from the collection, selected to highlight the significance of the 'affections of the keys' in The Well-Tempered Clavier, which has as one of its aims to creatively communicate the descriptive associations of each tonal center. Biography
Elizabeth Farr
Elizabeth Farr specializes in keyboard music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. She has performed solo recitals on the harpsichord, organ and pedal harpsichord to critical acclaim throughout the United States and Germany, in addition to performances as concerto soloist and basso-continuo player. As a recording artist for the Naxos label, Elizabeth Farr is a recognized interpreter of Baroque keyboard repertoire, garnering prestigious awards and numerous reviews worldwide. She received the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik for two recordings: Elisabeth-Claude Jacquet de La Guerre: Suites for Harpsichord, and JS Bach: Music for Lute-Harpsichord, the former also honored with the University of Colorado's Eaton Faculty Award. Her recording of Peter Philips' harpsichord works is the first to feature the Italian harpsichord built in 1658 by Jerome de Zentis. The Absolute Sound (USA) selected her recording of William Byrd: My Ladye Nevells Booke as Recording of the Issue in November 2007, followed shortly by the Supersonic prize from
Pizzicato music magazine (Luxembourg). Subsequent
recordings include Jean-Henri D'Anglebert: Suites for
Harpsichord, JS Bach: Keyboard Concertos, BWV
972-987, and Claude Balbastre: Pièces de Clavecin.
Elizabeth Farr holds degrees in harpsichord and organ performance from Stetson University, The Juilliard School, and the University of Michigan, having studied with Paul Jenkins, Vernon de Tar, and Edward Parmentier.
