AMRC Hosts Great American Sing-Along in Grusin Music Hall
The American Music Research Center invites the public to join in a Sing-Along of American tunes Sunday, July 3. Associate Director of Choirs Jeffrey Gemmell will lead the audience and a Festival Choir in the singing of old American songs, music from Tin Pan Alley, popular favorites from Broadway and Hollywood, patriotic tunes, and much more. Lyrics will be provided. Katie Couch is the collaborative pianist for this event, and will also perform "Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin. A Festival Choir of spirited local singers will serve as leaders for the Sing-Along and are asked to attend a rehearsal June 29 in Grusin; those interested in participating should email jeffrey.gemmell@colorado.edu.
The Great American Sing-Along is Sunday, July 3, 2011 from 3-5 p.m. in Grusin Music Hall on the CU-Boulder Main Campus. It is free and open to the public.

Jeffrey Gemmell, choral conductor
 Dr. Jeffrey Gemmell joined the faculty of the College of Music at the University of Colorado at Boulder in the Fall of 2009. He is Associate Director of Choirs and conductor of University Choir and teaches the Graduate Choral Symposium in Choral Music and Conducting. He also conducts the Adult and Youth Choirs at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder. Previously, he was Director of Choral Activities and Vocal Music at Millersville University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his appointment at Millersville, Dr. Gemmell held a similar position for seven years at California State University, Chico. Before teaching at Chico State, Dr. Gemmell conducted choirs and taught conducting, voice and music education courses at Ithaca College and Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He received his DMA in the Literature and Performance of Choral Music from University of Colorado at Boulder in 1997 and holds an MM in Music Education (1988) and a Certificate in Vocal Performance (1989) from Northwestern University. He completed his undergraduate degree in Music Education (1984) at Towson University in Maryland and attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. Click here for a full biography
