| Hilary Scott |
Summer finally has arrived in Seattle, and it is my
favorite time of year here. We had an unseasonably
cold spring, and I've been waiting for these sunny
days. Yet suddenly, rather than enjoy the mild days of
summer here in the Northwest, I will be leaving for the
tropical climate of Vietnam. In a whirlwind which was
both unexpected and exciting, my music was found on
My Space by Vanessa Feltner of Premier Talent
International and I was asked to apply for a job to play
music in Vietnam for three months! I thought the
position, the perks, and the possibility to travel more in
the future to other countries sounded too good to be
true, or I surely wouldn't be accepted for the job, but
after hurriedly applying, in a few short days I was given
the position, and I'm thrilled. It has resulted in a quick
move out of my studio apartment in Seattle (which I
just moved into in March!) and leaving the 9-5 job I've
been working for the past half a year. I am more than
excited to be headed into the realm of earning a living
as a "full-time musician" and I am even more thrilled
that I get to start by doing it this way and seeing parts
of the world I might not otherwise ever visit. Please
see the Gig News section for more details on the
Vietnam gig!
This newsletter has quite a few updates, so I'm not going to take up too much of your time in saying hello. I just want to say that although I haven't been performing much over the last few months and have missed it terribly, all of a sudden so many things are coming together and happening, and I'm being pulled back into the thick of things. It's a rush, and it feels just like coming home. Thanks to all of you for sticking with me during the quiet times. Lots of music to come.... |

Hilary will be in Columbia, Missouri from July
1st - July
11th and while there will be performing two
shows.
July 3rd, Hilary, guitarist Bill Adams, and
bassist Mike
Robertson will return to one of the band's
favorite
venues, Cooper's Landing on the river, for an
acoustic
show by the campfire. Show will start around
6pm.
On Saturday, July 5th, Hilary Scott and Wes Wingate will perform an opening set at MoJo's for a show featuring Orange Opera. Show will start around 9pm. On July 17th, Hilary leaves for Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. July 20th will be her first appearance as piano/vocal entertainment in the Park Hyatt Saigon, a five star hotel. Hilary will perform Tuesday through Sunday each week from 8pm - midnight until October 16th, when she will return to the United States for a month or more. After October, Hilary may be placed in Japan, or another country. While Hilary will be taking requests and playing covers at this job, she will also perform some original music, and have the opportunity to sell her CDs. Chopstix, a popular dueling piano bar in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood and one of Hilary's favorite spots, asked Hilary up onstage to play in lieu of taking a job there since she is leaving the country. Hilary and crowd favorite Todd played Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah together. |

Travelin' the road...
Hilary went into the studio this week to
record guitar
and vocals on America's Song, the
song she
wrote for
Keith Colley's America's Song project.
Although all
information is preliminary, it sounds as
though some
very prominent organizations and people in
the music
and entertainment industry are interested in
the
project, and Hilary is very excited about the
possibilities.
In October, upon her return from Vietnam, Hilary plans to head to Nashville to once again work with Matthew Wilder. Wilder and Scott will be working on new arrangements of the 5 songs they co-wrote (along with some writing by Angela Kaset and John Goodwin) as part of the publishing project Hilary was signed for in 2005. Hilary will be in Columbia, Missouri in July in order to complete a recording project with Wes Wingate and Hometone Productions. The recording will be done at Bruce Barkelew's Mansion Studios and will include covers by artists such as Bob Dylan, The Pogues, and Colin Hay, and some originals as well. Wingate sings and plays piano and guitar on the album, Scott sings and plays guitar and violin; other local and regional musicians will likely make appearances as well. |

And how you can help, too...
Hilary Scott and Belltown records recently
sent 40
Road To Hope CDs and 10 Road
To Hope
DVDs to
troops in Iraq. The CDs and DVDs were
wrapped in
individual packages with thank you notes for
everything they do for us and to let them
know that we
are thinking about them here and praying for
their safe
return.
The original idea for this type of gift came from the Jefferson City chapter of the American Red Cross, which sent 10 copies of Road To Hope tCDs to the troops a few months ago. Chaplains Ken Ballinger, Michael Baker and Ray Rivers are distributing the CDs and DVDs. Chaplain Ballinger writes: "Thank you so much for the personal touch in packaging each gift along with the personal note. Your caring spirit is obvious. I enjoyed viewing and listening to the DVD. I am sure our troops will enjoy it as well. Thank you for remembering us in your thoughts and prayers. Hearing from people like you helps keep us going." Belltown Records also donated 100 CDs to the Support America's Armed Forces organization. For $12.99, you can purchase a copy of Road To Hope (and CDs by other artists as well) from the SAAF's website for them to send to the service man or woman of your choice...or you can ask them to select someone for you. SAAF will pay the shipping costs and keeps the rest to help our service personnel and their families. SAAF's president, Vicki Mohler leads a group of volunteers who support the health, welfare, and morale of deployed troops, military personnel and their families by raising funds, collecting care package items and issuing grants to military bases, veteran organizations, active duty or reserve personnel, or families to improve the military population's quality of living. They also serve as the connector between the civilian population and deployed military personnel for sending care packages and partner with community businesses to secure care packages for military deployment activities. "Blessed" and "Such A Good Friend" used as background music
Baserigger developed and posted
a beautiful, haunting video of Hurricane
Katrina
photos, using the band's recording of
Blessed
from the Road To Hope CD.
You can view this video by clicking on this link: Blessed. Thank you, Baserigger, for reminding us that there is still a long way to go before the Gulf Coast fully recovers and for recognizing all the people who helped out then and continue to help the recovery efforts. Nick, one of Hilary's MySpace buddies, developed a video to Such A Good Friend. It is posted on YouTube and you can view it by clicking on the link in the previous sentence. |

Our deepest thanks to all of you who have donated so
far. Even now, there remains a very great need to help
the hurricane survivors.
According to the Los Angeles Times, now - even two years after the storms - families occupy roughly 56,000 FEMA trailers, the majority of them in Louisiana and Mississippi, and a number of those are contaminated with formaldehyde fumes. Your donation is and will be very much appreciated by those who have lost so much. For your $10.00 donation you will receive a copy of the EP, Blessed, featuring Hilary Scott and the Hilary Scott Band, Pastor Wright and the Total Experience Gospel Choir, and the Jeff Busch Quintet.
