Celebrating the Victories August 2007
 Greetings!

Yes, the girl above is one of our own (you didn't think we'd use a canned photo do you?). That's Madelyn, part of an enthusiastic group of young people who have come to know the Lord. Her smile and energy best communicates a Summer of spiritual victories. In this issue, you'll see how the Lord continues to transform lives and build His church. We hope you'll join us in celebrating the Lord's work.

Easter 07Let's Celebrate His Goodness
Saying August 5 was a celebration might be a bit of an understatement. With the auditorium chairs rearranged into a horseshoe shape and the instruments moved into a special position, the church and missionary staff worked hard to prepare for that night's anniversary celebration.  Yet, in the end, it was not the uniqueness of the layout, the arrangement of the instruments or even the use of technology that made the night special. No, it was a room filled almost to capacity with worshippers whose lives had been set free and changed by the power of the gospel.

Words and pictures cannot transmit the excitement of the song and testimony service that ended about a half hour longer than our normal services. There were Scriptures read, shouts of Amen, a few Hallelujahs, some hands extended, and plenty of genuine tears flowing in adoration to what God has done over these last four years. On this night, it was as if we touched Heaven as we worshipped Him in spirit and in truth! Above: The song says it all: We are the people of God, we are a special people, we are called to announce His plan throughout the world.

Easter 07From Red Heifer to the Pool

Earlier this year, you may recall, the church was privileged to have Dr. Glenn Mathews conduct a prophecy conference. A couple of those sermons, Peter as representing Israel and the significance of the red heifer, made lasting impressions.  In those services was a group of unsaved young people who had been attending the church for some time and had been talking to Pastor Miguel privately about questions they had about life.

On one night of the conference, part of this group of teenagers left the meeting, got as far as the street corner, and then felt the deep conviction of the Holy Spirit. They turned around, reentered the church and accepted the Lord as Savior. Since then, they have been faithfully attending the church and that group has continued to reach other friends with the gospel. It has not been an easy walk, as many of them faced early opposition by their parents. Thankfully, in July, the parents gave permission and a large group of them was baptized. This group of teenagers is part of the core of Pastor Miguel's youth program and they are faithfully serving the Lord in the church.

It just goes to show that a faithful exposition of Scriptures by a Spirit-filled servant of God can touch any age group. Dr. Mathews is no spring chicken, as they say. Yet he speaks with an authority that transcends age groups. His message of the Red Heifer in January concluded in the baptismal pool in July.

Easter 07 Up, Up and Away

What do you get with an auditorium filled with balloons, clouds, and teenagers dressed up as balloon pilots? A light head? Turbulence? How about another awesome Vacation Bible School?  This year's VBS concluded during anniversary week with more than 100 children faithfully attending the conference and more than 25 children accepting the Lord. Also noteworthy was the more than 30 church workers that faithfully served during the week. Under the direction of Miguel and Noemi Mercedes, the VBS continues to set high standards of excellence as it reaches children with the gospel. Above: Robin, part of the youth group, helps a child stay in the lines.

Silent Auction
Visionland
property cleared
This month marks the one year anniversary of the Lord's provision of 46 acres of land. We only have $50,000 to pay off. The building of the wall has already begun and architectural site plans are being drawn.

How can I help?

First, you can pray for the funds and workers. Before any construction can begin, we must build a concrete wall around the 46 acres of land. It costs about $20 a foot (7' high).

Second, perhaps you can get your church to come for a construction trip (and bring money for materials) to help build the wall. We have two groups in September and already have one group confirmed for Feb. 9-16, 2008. We would love to see January and February filled with wall construction teams.

Third, perhaps you could donate toward the payoff. Once we pay off the land, we can better focus our efforts on completing the wall and site plans, both expensive but necessary steps. Remember, this is a strategic initiative to reach the Dominican Republic and beyond. The Lord has ordered our steps as this vision is bigger than any of us. We need your help in seeing the dreams become reality. Please pray that we can soon pay off the land, so we can more fully move to the next phase.

Read the bottom story to see how a silent auction in September aims to make a large dent in the payoff.
