Greetings from the DR!

We know it has only been a couple of weeks since the last update, but we just couldn't hold it any longer. Read about what the Lord has done since the last update!

In response to our last team update, people wrote from all over the United States just to say they were praying for Robin’s salvation. On a Sunday night, after the message, Robin accepted the Lord as his Savior! Since then, Robin has continued to be faithful in coming to church, even inviting several management friends from the factories.

In last week’s discipleship time, Robin explained why other friends have been coming with him to church. “They are saying, if Robin is going to a church, we need to check that church out,” Robin said with a laugh. Indeed, Robin has experienced the power of the gospel in Romans 1:16 and his family and friends have taken notice.

The church, the team and especially Robin and his family cannot adequately express our gratitude for this display of compassion by our prayer supporters. We were all moved and encouraged by your responses, as we felt connected in a powerful way to the body of believers in the U.S.
We are not sure if Victor, from the boys home, ever found Nemo or not. However, he proved a worthy competitor in the underwater, hold-your-breathe competition. We are still checking to see if that is an Olympic sport.

The competition was one of the many crazy, fun- filled games and events during a recent, one-day youth retreat. About 30 teenagers enjoyed the Saturday, which included a special devotional and singing time. Once again, the interns did a great job in coordinating the retreat under the leadership of Youth Pastor Miguel Mercedes. Continue to pray for the youth group as it continues to grow and stabilize with a nucleus.
When you think of nets in a biblical context, you probably think fishermen, small boat and miraculous catches. However, that is not the only type of net the Lord can use.

Coordinated and directed by intern, Mary Stockdale, the June 13, 3-on-3 basketball tournament was a great opportunity to use the “key” of basketball to present the gospel to street ballers. The tournament followed a double-elimination format in order to allow ample time with the participants. Also, T-shirts, trophies and awards were given out, making a great impression on the participants.

Most importantly, the tournament provided a platform for Gary to share about the church, Miguel to preach the gospel and for one of our new believers, Heidy, to share her testimony for the first time publicly. Heidy, who is a former university basketball player and is also pregnant, shared how Jesus had changed her life and her perspective. After giving her testimony, she was so joyous that she was hugging the church members and interns present. An interesting side-note, her unsaved husband was playing in the tournament. Just this past Sunday he accepted the Lord as his Savior!

God used the tournament in order to give our church a relevant ministry opportunity in the community, present the gospel in a clear and compelling way, encourage a new believer in her faith, draw a husband closer to the Truth, and provide the interns, particularly Mary, a key, leadership experience. We are praying for how the Lord might want us to expand the tournament next year, including possibly making it a multi-city event in the future.

From a church service to a pool to a court, God continues to impact and change lives, drawing men, women and youth to Himself. Thank you for your faithful prayers.

In Him,
