In today's Bible passage, I read that when I fast [Matt 6:16] I shouldn't make a big deal out of it. But, the act of fasting is not even debated. Spiritual leaders from every major religion have recommended fasting for centuries. But complete water fasting seems to be rarely recommended in the present age.

Fasting helps control weight and raises growth hormone levels and increases clarity of thinking.

My 1,3, 5-plan calls for fasting 1 day per week. But for some (those with normal body weight), fasting once a month may be more reasonable. Less than once a month, and the benefits seem to diminish.
