Week 2: Day 9 Health Principle: Fasting Jan 9, 2005
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings:
Read Matthew: Chapters 5 - 8 __ Walk 3 miles: actual miles walked _____ __ Eat 5 fruits or vegetables _____ __ Virtue: Silence-Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.
There's a little inconsistency in behavior that I'd like to display.
In today's Bible passage, I read that when I fast [Matt 6:16] I shouldn't make a big deal out of it. In the same passage, Christ advises us to go in the closet to pray, yet the spiritual leaders have no hesitation to call for public prayer with every meeting. But, when's the last time you heard your priest, preacher, or rabbi call for an all-out, let's everybody have a real fast (where nothing goes in your mouth but water)?
I'm not knocking public prayers done in the right spirit. I'm trying to display the scarcity of fasting as a health and spiritual tool.
As you know, my 1,3, 5-plan calls for fasting 1 day per week. For some, fasting once a month will be more reasonable. Less than once a month, and the benefits seem to diminish.
