The East Baltimore Revitalization Initiative: A Commitment to Economic Inclusion

This report details how the East Baltimore revitalization initiative has surpassed its goals for minority and women-owned business contracts and has helped place more than 2,700 people in jobs -- nearly a third of whom were East Baltimore residents. The report also details how the project used a third-party monitoring system to achieve its results and provides lessons that can guide other large redevelopment projects seeking to promote economic inclusion. The Urban Institute recently launched their MetroTrends website, an online report card on how metropolitan America is faring. MetroTrends has the latest information on social and economic trends in urban America with analyses on what they mean for workers, families, businesses, and neighborhoods. The aim is to fuel evidence-based debate about the nationwide impacts of the recession and recovery, critical differences in metropolitan regions, and persistent or emerging disparities among population groups.
