Smart Growth Speaker Series: Ideas That Matter- The Legacy of Jane Jacobs

The Smart Growth speaker series is a free program presented in association with the EPA and the Smart Growth Network. The goal of the series is to promote dialogue and research on sustainable development strategies that preserve community character and protect the environment. This month, urban scholar Mary Rowe discusses the key tenets of Jane Jacobs's work and how her ideas have risen to prominence in urban planning and design, ecological economics, and other fields. Home Depot Foundation's Community Impact Grants
Application deadline:  October 31, 2011 
The Home Depot Foundation makes grants, up to $5000, to registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations, public schools, or tax-exempt public service agencies in the U.S. that are using the power of volunteers to improve the physical health of their community. Grants are given in the form of The Home Depot gift cards for the purchase of tools, materials, or services. For more information... 
 
Youth as Resources Grant Program
Workshop dates:  October 4 and October 8, 2011
Application deadline:  November 12, 2011 
Youth as Resources, Baltimore's youth-led grant making organization has funds available! Youth (up to age 21) in Baltimore City and County who want to put their community building ideas into action are invited to apply for funding. Applicants are required to attend one of the two workshops and must be represented by one or two youth and no more than one optional adult. For more information...
