Riverside Business Grown from a Local Entrepreneur's Vision Recently Featured on National Television Series

Featuring excerpts from the Press-Enterprise article by Debra Gruszecki as published on August 27, 2012

Photo by Kurt Miller/PE Staff Photographer: Chris Burkhardt, The Canned Ham Man, sits on the step of his first restored trailer, a Voyager, at his Riverside business on Monday, August 20, 2012. The Canned Ham Man is a business that restores vintage mobile trailers, and has caught onto the coattails of a new real estate/camping related trend. Folks are not only tooling around in the retro units dating back as far as the 1930s, they're buying them to put in movie studios, feature on TV shows and more.

The Canned Ham Man, celebrating its first year in a permanent business location in Riverside, has caught the tailwind of a consumer market that has been growing steadily over the last decade.

Owner, Chris Burkhardt, has spent six years scooping up as many mothballed travel his once-penniless life could afford to preserve as much as he can, strip them down to the nubbies and rescue them from oblivion for a growing number of vintage travel trailer junkies.

Today, his retrofits of trailers that began to hit the road by the thousands in the late 1930s and were shaped like - you guessed it a can of manufactured ham, are turning heads.

The Canned Ham Man was just featured on A&E's TV show, "Barter Kings," as part of a forklift trade for a retro-styled family vacation house.
