Time to “Talk Turkey” about Home Remodeling
 Food, parties, gifts, visits with friends and family...With the holidays here, you have so many pleasant things to plan! But if 2012 is the year to finally re-do the kitchen, update the bath, or create a great new master suite or family space, December is also the time to start planning for your remodeling project.
The fact is, good home remodeling always
starts with good planning.
Working out details, drawing up plans, getting permits, and selecting appliances, fixtures and finishes can take anywhere from three weeks to nine months or more, depending on the complexity of your project. For example, if you’d like to have a new deck or sunroom ready for the summer, construction needs to begin by spring. And if you want to have a major addition or kitchen renovation ready for the 2012 holiday season, now is the time to be talking with your remodeler.
Step by step to a stress-free remodeling experience.
Do you envy those organized people who look ahead and get their holidays planned...in summer? They seem to spend less and enjoy the holidays more! Well, homeowners who look ahead and get their 2012 remodeling projects into “pre-planning” now can feel just as smart as those “Christmas in July” folks. By starting now, you have plenty of time to make sure you don’t overlook great “extras” that can be built into your project without adding significant expense.
Plus, remember that more complex remodeling and renovation jobs have many steps — everything from feasibility studies and design concepts, to drawings, selections, permits, construction, inspections and much more. Giving yourself and your remodeling contractor good lead time helps assure the project ticks smoothly on the timeline — and budget — you’re expecting.
Remember, at the bare minimum, you’ll need a few weeks to gather your ideas and talk with your remodeler about your budget and their schedule and availability for your project.
