  Christina's Pilates Story

Long time Lone Star Pilates client Christina Welch was first introduced to the Ron Fletcher method of Pilates in 2004 when was pregnant with her first son. Weekly private lessons kept her in shape and comfortable throughout her pregnancy and credits her easy delivery And rapid recovery to her weekly sessions. She was hooked, and began practicing Ron Fletcher or as she says, "real" Pilates three times a week. Throughout her 2nd pregnancy she continued her practive in Barrel and reformer classes then Wunda Chair and Cadillac until the day she delivered. Four weeks after having her 2nd son, she returned to class and again, attending three times a week.

Christina joined us at Lone Star Pilates in  late 2007 , when she drove by and saw that there was a Pilates sudio close to her home. She came in, and lightheartedly recalls thinking "the only way I'll change studios is if they teach Ron Fletcher!" Well, we did, and she quickly began attending classes with us. On most weeks, you can find her here doing a variety of classes 3-4 days a week - Reformer, Wunda Chair, Barrel, and her personal favorite, Mat III. "if I had the time, I'd be here everyday, she says.

Pilates balances the other physical outlets that Christina enjoys. Over the past several years, she's trained for and completed five half marathons, is a devotee of a weekly strength/cardio class at her gym, enjoys the occasional spin class, and loves to run around with her boys. But the strength, flexibility, and mental serenity that she gains during her hour-long classes makes Pilates her favorite activity.

I'm constantly amazed at how the smallest movements and meticulous execution of pieces can make the biggest difference, not only in class, but in daily life. I love that I can be challenged physically, while at the same time, having the chance to slow down my brain and have an uninterrupted hour of focus on something that's just about me. I cant' imagine my life without Pilates--I love it!

Christina has been married to her husband, Glenn, since 2001. Together, they are proud parents to their two boys, George (7) and Henry (4). After a 14 year career in public relations and special events, today, Christina works as Founding Senior Director and Accessories Stylist with Stella & Dot, selling gorgeous jewelry and handbags: offering private trunk shows: and mentoring a team of hundreds of women nationwide.

What Do You Like Most About Your Casework So Far.....

Program of study girls share their answers to this question.

Mara Tamez:  Teaching casework is a great experience. I've been teaching group classes for 4 years and privates for 2 years, but after 6 months of program study I've gotten a lot of information. I'm applying it to my casework and it's amazing how my students respond and how they're willing to move right. Teaching casework has deepened my passion to help people have healthier lifestyle through movement and breathing.

Dana Runge:  "I feel as if we are re-introducing clients to their bodies. I love seeing the fascination on their faces when they discover something about their body that they never noticed before. I am enjoying the opportunity to pay my love of Pilates forward!!! Love it!!!!

Robin Tefft: I love sharing those "aha" moments of discovering how the body moves.

Joyce Knapick: Although teaching is not a new experience for me, working with the casework students under the guidelines of the program of study is a new and challenging experience. I look forward to teaching the work for the Cadillac and Wunda Chair, since most of my experience has been with Mat, Towel, Spine Corrector and Reformer. I want each casework student to have a great experience as we strive together to achieve their fitness goals.

Dena Dalton: My favorite part of Casework is my clients! You cannot prepare for teaching Fletcher Pilates by book or DVD alone. There is real, hands on, knowledge gained from working with clients. They have set goals for themselves and my job is to help them realize those goals while expanding my Pilates education. What a treat to be a part of helping someone actively work toward strengthening themselves, Mind, Body, and Spirit!

Nancy McElreath: I've really enjoyed working with my case studies. It's been fun and interesting. You learn so much from other people's bodies. Every body needs different cueing and every body responds differently to them. I'm excited to continue working with my case studies and see the wonders of Pilates transform their bodies and help transform me as a teacher. I am so lucky to be working with my case studies, they are all such wonderful people and I can't wait to get to know them better!
