Long Standing Reformer Girls
Feature Clients of the Month
Gloria Flores, Janie Radin, Jutta Forsyth, and Diane Pool
Can be found at Lone Star Pilates Tuesday and Thursday Morning Reformer Classes for most of the 4 years since we've opened.
Gloria Flores: I've been practicing Pilates since 2004 and I love it, I tell all the clients "if I can do it, you can do it!" I started out assisting behind the front desk to help out a little then discovered how much I enjoy talking with the clients and getting to know everyone. I became the front desk manager for Lone Star Pilates in 2007 and am so excited to see each and every client as they grow on their Pilates Journey.
Diane Pool: A good many people come to Pilates to look better or to feel better physically. I found it for a different reason. A friend had encouraged me to look into Pilates since her personal trainer incorporated some Pilates into her training. I stumbled into Lone Star trying to find a way to improve my equestrian skills. I needed to be able to sit up a little straighter, to sit a littler deeper in the saddle, to grip the saddle a little firmer with my knees, to keep my hand and arms elevated and still, as well as other skills too.
This experience was very challenging at the beginning- Breathing! I felt like I was flunking breathing, but with much guidance and encouragement from Laura and Tammy, I persevered. Graduating from privates into classes was a major milestone. Now I feel better physically and mentally. A sense of accomplishment and enjoyment has emerged also. I love the fact that new friends have come into my life too. Yes, I am accomplishing my initial major goals, my riding skills have improved significantly. Little did I know that I would feel so challenged by taking Pilates and enjoy it so much at the same time.
Jutta Forsyth: I started Pilates 4 years ago because at 60 I was getting stiff and had back problems and I wanted to stay flexible. Running and hard core workouts were not for me. I love the way Laura teaches and uses imagery when she is teaching. She makes it easy to understand what it is she is asking our bodies to do. I have benefited from Pilates in that I feel stronger, have more energy, and there are more good days than bad days. I enjoy the friendships that I have made over these past 4 years. I feel so much better about myself and me feeling good makes my husband much happier too.
Janie Radin: The joy of friendship is a gift that Lone Star Pilates has brought about in many of the lives of women who have made Pilates a way of life here in San Antonio. I am one who has taken great delight in developing wonderful friendships on the reformer. What a Gift! Week after week, our group has spent time learning how to "FLY" our machines as Laura has sung her instructions to us via opera, sometimes country/western, but always in rhythm and on key! What fun we have had, laughing, learning, recognizing how very much we have in common and how very much we love being together! "...sometimes, like Cheers, you want to go where everybody knows your name!!" |

Rock and Roll Marathon
Congratulations, Wiede! Wiede completed the 1/2 marathon in 3 1/2 hrs. Wiede's story: Back in July I saw the sign up sheet at Lone Star to run for the upcoming Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon. I saw it and ignored it. Then I got a call from Tammy, "aren't you going to come train with us?" I assured her that it wasn't for me, since I don't run. Turns out though you don't have to be a runner to participate, so I started training with the group. It was a nice way to get to know some of the other ladies, and to see parts of the relatively new San Antonio creekway paths that I had not been on before. In between, I walked and even occasionally jogged around my own neighborhood. Contrary to what the news reports and out of towners had to say about the weather last Sunday, I thought it was very pleasant. As I took my place near the back of the crowd of participant , I did wonder if I'd make it all the way to the end, and if I'd make it before they closed the course 4 hours later. Even though I had worked up to a small amount of jogging I decided to walk for the event. I kept up a good pace and finished the race!!!! Way to Go Wiede, job well done!!!!!! |
Nancy McElreath Visits Pilates Body Shop in LA
Nancy is a client and student in the Program of Study at Lone Star Pilates. She recently visited Pilates Body in LA Here is her story: Getting to take a class with Diane Serverino, when I was visiting LA, was an amazing opportunity that I excitedly took! Diane's class was called "Old School with Diane" and with continuous references to the way the work was at Ron's studio in New York, you couldn't help but feel directly connected to the Ron Fletcher work. We went through her hour class with flowing motion stopping only when Diane gave a personal "Ronisms" from her own experience with him. Visiting the Pilates Body Shop was a really great experience, one I will remember always. Diane, Kerri, McKenna and the rest of the Pilates Body Shop teachers and students were wonderful. Welcoming and passionate about Pilates! It was fascinating to see first hand the impact Ron Fletcher's work has on people and the loyalty that his students have for him and his work throughout all these years.
