Fall Clean Up with Ayurveda!

Greetings!

Time to gather and bundle fallen limbs, rake leaves, and maybe even clean out a closet or two as  winter blows in.  Ayurveda says this is a good time to do some internal clean up as well.

In Ayurveda the term for toxins is "ama".   Ama is the sticky waste product of incomplete digestion, whether physical or emotional.  When digesti
on is weak or overburdened by the wrong foods or experiences, ama builds up in our digestive tract and in the seat of our emotions.   If not cleared, ama begins to travel through the body and settle to cause problems.  With Ayurveda change of season practices we can cleanse ama from our system to prevent illness while charging up our radiance.

Fat soluable ama accumulates in the body's fat cells.  Fat cell
When we are under stress, our stress reaction tells us we are in an emergency situation and we send out  the message to store fat just in case we will need that energy later.  We store stress-fat laden with toxins mostly around our bellies and lower bodies and we crave stimulants, sugar and carbohydrates. Our weight and shape issues are more about problems with our capacity to properly digest our food choices and the pleasantness of the environment in which we eat, rather than about how much we eat.

You can prevent ama from collecting within you by practicing good eating and lifestyle habits.  You can also eliminate ama already formed with some purification strategies.   Even small changes for a personal Ayurveda fall clean up will reward you with more energy, clarity of expression, and strengthened immunity.   Feel motivated?  Check out the suggestions in this newsletter for more pure intake and for detoxing.  How many will you choose to give yourself a healthy hug?

I am honored to work with you to improve your health through workshops, private sessions, and information provided here and at  RadiantLife Ayurveda.com

Pure In ---> Pure Within ---> Pure Expression

Pure in is pureness experienced, followed by pure out.  What you take in becomes part of your home and forms the essence of your expression in the world.  Small changes can be levers for large change.

Take a scan of yourself right now.  Are there some aches anywhere?  Are you feeling heavy or airy in your digestive system?  Are your thoughts unsettled or aggressive? How are your emotions?

Then try some of these pure intake strategies listed below.  In a few weeks do the scan again.  What do you sense in you scan now?  I am betting.....ahhh...cleaner in mind, body, spirit.

Ideas to increase Pure Intake:

  1. Do not eat leftovers
  2. Do not drink ice water, especially not with a meal.
  3. Do not read or watch TV when eating
  4. Do not microwave
  5. Do not eat when you are upset market food
  6. Eat predominantly vegetarian
  7. Eat the freshest food you can find
  8. Eat organic--especially thin skinned fruits and vegetables. Eat cooked figs and prunes.
  9. Eat food that is colorful and healthy looking.
  10. Eat food that is prepared by a loving, settled cook.

  ...do the best you can....

Ama detoxing!

Already got some ama?  We all do.  Stressful demands, fast food, rushed meals, lots of change ... wanted or not.  All of these and more invite ama.  Well, we want to give it the boot.
ginger root

Ama busters:
  1. Ginger---in all forms.  Cook with minced fresh ginger. Add some fresh ginger to boiled water for tea.
  2. Sip hot spice water throughout the day.  Add 1/2 tsp fennel, 1/4 tsp cumin and 1/4 tsp coriander seeds to a quart of hot water in a thermos.
  3. Balance the dosha that is out of balance for you. Visit the Radiant Life web site for a doshic assessment inventory.
  4. Spend time in the arms of the great rebalancer...nature.
  5. Practice meditation and deep breathing.
  6. Chew some fennel seed after a meal--improves digestion.
  7. Soak in a hot Epsom salt bath. Use 1 quart of salt per bath and enjoy for 20 minutes.
  8. Good sleep is important.  Be restful in late evenging and go to bed by 10pm.

Personal Ayurveda Assessment

Time and Cost:  1 1/2 - 2 hours for the Initial Consultation & Assessment.  Total  price for the assessment and written report is $120.  Follow up sessions are $60.  A follow up session is highly valued to discuss and activate the selected recommendations so receive both for $160, a savings of $20.

Here comes Winter!
We have done a good job of holding it at bay, but winter is on its way now and we need to detox and prepare for this challenging season.  Take a look at the workshops created to support you in your health for this season. You may also wish to consider a private consultation as you ever move on  the path of light.

Cheers and blessings,

3 cloves

Mung Bean Detox Soup

Ingredientsmung beans

3/4 cup green mung beans (whole green mung beans are best for cleansing)

4 cups water

½ tsp. turmeric powder

1/4 tsp cumin powder

1/4 tsp coriander powder

1/4 tsp fennel powder

1/4 tsp asafoetida or Hing (from Indian stores, health shops )

1 rounded tablespoon chopped Cilantro

1 Tbsp ghee

Directions

Wash the mung beans in several changes of water and then soak them for at least 4 hours or overnight before cooking. Drain.

Put into saucepan with 4 cups of fresh water.

Simmer gently for 30 - 40 minutes or until the beans are soft adding more water if necessary.
Saute the spices in the ghee and add to the soup. simmer for a few minutes more.

Add some vegetables such as spinach, other greens, grated carrot or zucchini to vary the soup and if you get very hungry.  Cool a little, garnish with cilantro and eat as a thick soup or blend for a more detox effect.

Detoxing Spices

Ginger, turmeric, coriander, cumin, fennel and fenugreek help open up the shrotas aka energy channels of the body to support flushing of toxins via the skin, liver, urinary tract, and  colon.

You can sautee first in ghee or olive  oil to release the intelligence of the spices.
