Join us for Ayurveda Classes in Kalamazoo!
Greetings!
Ayurveda is the most ancient healing science from which the other healing modalities such as ancient Tibetan and traditional Chinese Medicine emerged. In sanskrit, Ayus means life and Veda means science or knowledge. Ayurveda is about being in harmony with the rhythms and elements of nature to live a long, healthy and balanced life. Through an understanding of Ayurveda energy types, called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas, your particular imbalances can be identified. These are corrected with gentle changes in diet and lifestyle. Even small changes can manifest in improved daily health and vitality because the improvements are customized to your distinct pattern of energy and needs for balance. Ayurveda can also help to alleviate longstanding problems and is highly regarded as a disease prevention approach, correcting conditions before disease stage is reached.

Ayurveda Born. 1 Sound, 5 elements and 3 doshas: Om....Earth Water, Fire, Air and Ether....Vata, Pitta, Kapha
According to the rishis--the great seers of ancient India, from pure consciousness arose the sound of Om and in turn the five great elements-- earth, water, fire, air, and space-- that make up the universe took birth and from those elements the three doshas --Vata, Pitta, and Kapha -- emerged. Ayurveda explains that humans are made up of these five elements and the Soul. At one time it was thought that these five elements were actually in each component of the universe, now it is understood that the character and qualities of each of these five elements is what is present in everything in an infinite variety of proportions.
Earth is in the substance of our bodies including our bones and the minerals that we need to survive. Water composes over two-thirds of our body and supports movement and growth in our cells. Fire is the spark of our digestive fire that enables us to break down food and transform it to energy. Air is inhaled and carries blood throughout our system nourishing all aspects of our body. Space is the hollow cavities of our body and is the vessel for our spiritual receptivity. The elements combine in a bio-energetic form to create the doshas.
Vata is created of air and space
Pitta is created of fire and some water
Kapha is created of earth and water
The core of Ayurveda, the essence of healing is to understand our constitutional dosha balance from birth and our current dosha imbalance--or ways in which we are out of balance with our constitution. Through diet, meditation, massage, herbs, yoga, purification and other Ayurveda practices we restore balance to be a receptive vessel for healing from the underlying field of consciousness.
