Two '99 Reds Headed to Junior Olympic Cross Country National Championship
 | | Emily, Angelina and Sam Rosenkranz (G98B) |
On December 10th, when the starter's pistol goes off in the Midget Division of the USATF Junior Olympic Cross Country National Championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the Timbers '99 Reds will be well represented. Running in the 3000 M race against 300 other girls born in either 1999 or 2000, will be '99 Reds players Emily Wilson and Angelina Krawcyzk.
Emily and Angelina have had a busy November, as on November 12th, at Woodland Park in Seattle, they ran for the Evergreen Storm Cross Country Team in the Association Championships, and helped pace the team to a 2nd Place finish behind Seattle powerhouse, Speed Unlimited. Finishing in the top 35 individually would send the girls on to the Regional meet the following Saturday, but the girls weren't quite done for the day. They got in the car, ate a quick lunch, and headed to their '99 Reds game against Northwest Nationals in Lynnwood, which ended in a 2-2 tie.
The following Saturday, the 19th, again at Woodland Park, both girls ran in the USATF Region 13 JO Championships. With runners from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska participating in this race, and only the top 20 qualifying for the National Championships, both girls would definitely have to step up their pace if they wanted to qualify. AND DID THEY EVER! both girls shaved several seconds off their pace to help the Evergreen Storm finish in 3rd place in the team competition, qualifying as individuals as well as a team for the National Championships. And, not to take it easy on this Saturday, both girls continued to sprint in order make their '99 Reds game against Washington Rush in Everett.
With their RCL Fall season complete, both girls have been focused getting ready for the National Championships on December 10th, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and then hopefully plan on taking a nice break after reaching their goals back there....but somehow we doubt it!!
Good Luck at Nationals, Angelina and Emily!! |

FIELD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
VUSA kicked off their $2M Capital Campaign to raise money for 3 Lit Turf Fields to be constructed at Harmony Sports Complex in the summer of 2012. The Club has raised about $200K thus far and has secured a $300K low interest loan from WYS. Our goal is to raise another $500K by 1/1/12, an additional $500K by 5/1 when Construction would begin, and the final $500K when the fields open on 9/1. Before we go out to the community at large, we'll have to demonstrate that VUSA's Members are committed to donating something to this needed cause.
The Board has set the goals and timelines above, and 100% of us have already donated to this Project. We've asked the Coaches to do the same, and easily expect their participation. We now ask you, our Membership, to contribute.

Player Spotlight
Matt Fleischauer-~B 93 Reds This is Matt's 8th season with the club, he currently plays for the U18's, but started his playing career at U11 with Timbers.
* What are the positions you have played the most over the years ? Primarily center mid through most of my Timber years but now I'm gravitating towards left back.
* Tell us about your High school or ODP experience ? I play for Skyview Varsity as well as Oregon ODP B94s
* What are your favorite moments with the Timbers ? Our BU11 State cup run. It was a tremendous experience and an outstanding achievement. While the score reflected a loss in OT, our guys knew we were the state champs. It's been really fun to continue on with that team over the years.
* How have you managed to remain a Timber for this long ? I have always liked my teammates and the reds have always been the best clark county team in this age group.
* What Advice would you give to other young players within the club ? STICK WITH IT. You may not always get the playing time you want or the praise from your coach, but if you love the game and are willing to make a commitment to excellence, the rewards, both tangible and intangible, will be awesome and serve you well throughout your life.
* What are your goals in soccer ? What is next for you ? I will always play. Academics at a top tier engineering school are most important to me but I will continue to play whether it's on a varsity team or on a club level.
* What things would you change about your soccer experience ? I would have grown sooner, worked on technique more at an early age and probably focused more on speed and agility training. * Who is your favorite soccer team ? and professional player ? PORTLAND TIMBERS; Darlington Nagbe.
* What kind of coach would you be ? or what are the 2 qualities you believe a coach should have ? I would be demanding and consistent. I wouldn't be a screamer. Coaches need to be experienced, consistent and empathetic in order to get the most out of their players. |
VUSA Timbers Give Back The VUSA TImbers G98 Reds and their families volunteered at the orchards share house on Nov. 5th. They were able to feed about 50 people. The team helped with preparation, serving, clean up, and also spent quality time playing and mentoring the children there.
Coach Justin Donathan told his girls "I am so thankful for all of you who came and helped out our local community. The teamwork in the kitchen and among the residents was such a site to watch. I am proud to be a part of a group of young ladies and their parents that would spend a Saturday evening volunteering to feed families in their community that could use a warm meal. It was priceless to watch our daughters interact and help the little children.
There was some talk that we could not make chili in time for dinner, but with a team like you and how well we all worked together, not only did we make the chili which tasted really good, we also made cornbread, fruit salad, potato's and onions, and cookies."
