Timbers Carnival - Soccer Funfest

The carnival was held both Saturday, September 17th and Sunday, September 18th out at Harmony Sports Complex.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Soccer Fun Fest this year! The rain put a bit of a "damper" on the event, but the kids who came out had a really great time. Congratulations to the Gu14 Red's for winning the bracelet sales contest!  They won the priviledge of running the Dunk Tank and keeping the proceeds.  The tank was definitely one of the highlights of the weekend.  Who would have thought that the players would enjoy dunking their coaches!

 G95 Reds MUSTANG CHAMPIONS !!!!!!!!
VUSA Timbers U16 Girls

It was the team's second trip to Danville, CA for this competitive tournament.  As they prepared for the event, the expectations became higher than the previous season and reaching the QFinals was on the cards as a minimum, hopes where high.

The first game saw a shaky start with a loss to Marin FC 3-1. The team rested and recovered for the second game of the day to gain our first point with a 0-0 tie with Mustang Revolution.    On day two, a second tie in our third game,  2-2 v SACYSL gave us enough points to reach the QFinal game that same evening.

The Quarterfinal match was against another Washington state team, Westsound FC.  It became a thrilling game which saw us take a early 3-0 lead in the first 15 minutes, only to then be tied halfway through the second half at 3-3.  The game turned several times with us getting a late winner to finish 5-4; on to the semi-finals we went.

The Semi-final game with Mustang Revolution was a rematch of our earlier group game.  A tough battle which we came through  2-0, allowing us to be the first ever Timbers team to reach a final at Mustang Stampede.

With little rest between games, we came full circle to reach the final, another rematch, this time against Marin FC, who had beaten us in our first game of the tournament.

A very exciting game, despite tired legs, the game was end to end.  A goal-less game took us into over-time, where Haley Wheelon hit a 30yrd shot within seconds of the first over-time period to win the game in golden goal.

In our club's 6th season attending, our first finalist was also our first Mustang Stampede Champion.

Congratulations to the G95 Reds !!!!!

Player Spotlight
Maddie Barton-~ 93 Reds
This is Maddie's 8th season with the club, she currently plays for the U18's, but started her playing career at U11 with Timbers.
* Favorite moments with the Timbers ?
My favorite moment of the timbers would have to be winning nationals in boise idaho when I scored in the finals. As well as my first two years with the club when I was young we'd go to Mike Richarts lake house and sleep over.

* How you managed to remain a Timber for this long ?
Once I was in the timbers family I couldn't see myself playing anywhere else. There has been rough times but I've always stuck with the timbers. I'm glad I played my whole soccer life with them I wouldn't change a thing its been a great journey.

*Advice you would give to other young players within the club ?
Never EVER put your head down.
* Goals in soccer ? what is next for you ?
I'd like to play college soccer. I'm not sure where yet and I know time is running out but I'd love to further my soccer career.

* What 1-3 things would you change about your soccer experience ?
I wish that i had played at least 1-2 years of ODP.

* Favorite soccer team ?(EPL, MLS, WPS  etc..) and professional player ?
My favorite team would have to be Western New York Flash because of all of the outstanding players they have on their team. But my overall favorite player would be Abby Wambach.

* What kind of coach would you be ?
I believe that a coach should be willing to have fun but knows when to be serious, always mixes things up and doesn't do too much repeating of drills.
I always love a coach that will play with us during practice.
He/She actually knows what they are talking about.
